ridiculed for loving dubstep

Post by namtax » Thu Feb 07, 2008 10:58 am

Been having a schoolground debate with my mate about music and nights out.
I said that whilst i still love drum and bass, my enthusiasm to go to the big nights has waned, and that im far more interested in goin to dubstep nights now, as its fresh new and exciting.
He responded

"i like dubstep, prefer grime but i cant go to a nite of just dubstep cos
its too slow for me. Its also blantantly smokers music (hence the dub) -
its good for the bedroom and defo when u go out, just not all nite. But i
can understand where ya coming from."

I responded...

"Trust me, the dubstep nights i have been to recently have absolutely
smashed it, not slow at all.....nasty gnarly twisted sounds, and a snare
drum that snaps your head off, youd be suprised...!

Try listening to

http://www.last.fm/music/Kromestar the bully tune
http://www.last.fm/music/Benga%2B%2526%2BWalsh the bingo tune
http://www.myspace.com/zombyproductions spl1ff dub...

Plus the new tune im making is PHAT PHAT PHAT, trust me mate, just print
out this email and read it as your listening to it..ha ha"

To which he responded

"now your makin dubstep ahahaha - come past summer mate, it will go the way of garage ;)"

Does anyone else agree that his final comment is absolute nonce-sense?

I dont understand people who say they couldnt dance to dubstep all night. There is something about the music that means I cant stop dancing to it, all day, all night!

Most people dont know what it is when i mention it, but ive been the subject of many jokes from listening to Hip Hop. Its nothing really, learn some jokes about your mates music n that.

Dubstep will move on, one day, but people will still enjoy it. People arn't making the Hip Hop i enjoy but its still played in my house.

I used to get ridiculed for liking metal in my youth but people seem to be sympathetic towards my dubstep addiction. If I ever get withdrawal symptoms they jam my head into a bassbin and allow me to relax. 8)

I used to get ridiculed for being called 'Dubstepathy Grime Perkins' but now look who's relevant.

I get a lot of that from all sorts of people. My GF hates it. but to be fair she's not much into EDM past house music, her loss not mine. D'n'B crew is really hit and miss with it, my friend is really against it while I've gotten a few of my 'junglist' friends to at least listen to it.

It is what it is. For me it's another rhythm and vibe to get down with. It doesn't need to replace other genres for me - dubstep has it's own place and time. Now I'm getting dubstep bookings as well as d'n'b. so it's just opened up more connections for me. Next is some tech house / techno...

:D
what is this stuff?

Who wants every prick in the world to be into dubstep anyway? Ideally I want 4 people to be into it, 3 of whom aren't into 90% of it

U guys are lucky to even talk to people that know what dubstep is  I got a tune released on dubstep divison recordings, and when i told my friends and family, i had to educate them on what dubstep was and how the hell i got into it - they just don't seem to understand that there is such a thing as underground music lol...I do live in Norway tho so dubstep is unheard of here, but im doing my share to spread the word!

And even if people dont understand why i like dubstep or something like that, that's their problem, but i also know that it can be very annoying when people make silly remarks because they just don't know!

Fuck any1 who trys to slate you for listening to dubstep, i couldn't care less if i was the only 1 person who enjoyed dubstep. As long as there is dubstep for me to buy then im happy. Most of my m8s are in to grime and don't even know what dubstep is, n the 1s that do aint really had an educational lesson on it yet. To be honest the less people interested in dubstep the better, means less tunes will go outa stock so quick
