You can't have a fight over the internet. So why block a debate? It was starting to get interresting. It could have gone on for ages, with each person looking more stupid by the minute. Any Polltw*g was the first to say w*g, so i think he should be banished. Every one else should consider a bit of self cencorship. lol

There is this issue but also recently the locking of threads seems to be happening a bit too lightly.

Locking a thread on the grounds of slander - now come on. There is slander all over the web which never results in any true damage of any kind to the subject. The forum is not responsible for what is written here so why should threads be locked?

People should have the freedom to express themselves. Even if that means expressing contentions and dissatisfactions on artists, individuals, ideas or anything else. How this forum will ever create more of a culture of discourse rather than simple appreciation without this, i just don't know.

In my opinion nothing has ever been said on here to warrant a thread being locked. Why 'The Moderator' feels so compelled to intervene i don't understand. I've got nothing against you mate, i just feel that you are taking things a little too far. Who and what are you protecting by locking the thread. What is the worst that could happen?

If someone calls my name, I let it be. Most forum members are mature enough to let stuff like that go, or gracefully respond, or even if an argument ensues, no realy harm comes of it.

Can you really see beef on here causing fights to break out at DMZ or something?

Yes, we how have in excess of 2000 users, some of which may be trolls and net reprobates but seasoned net users are used to them. Ignore them and they'll go away.

Threads should just run their course then fall into the archives.

I don't want to get into a massive debate about this - although if it's up for debate? - just wanted to say my piece.

from day one, all of the moderators have been trying to keep this place positive. that's our focus.
positivity, doesn't mean you can't be critical. it means you have to be an adult. it should be the focus of how your run your life.
if you're a miserable person with an internet connection, looking to abuse people you can't face in real life, then please go elsewhere. this place is not a war forum. if you feel like being abusive/aggressive/counterproductive then there are about 10 underground music forums i can point you towards where you can do that all day long. when i mean "you", i don't mean you (boomnoise). i'm just speaking in general to everyone here. :)

our job as moderator's is to set a tone for the forum. if we allow useless bickering and bad vibes to go down on the main forum, then we're not helping anyone, and furthermore, we're not helping this music at all.

imagine you've just registered for the first time on this forum to find two blatant slander threads on the front page? is that the vibe we want to spread?

Who is being protected? And who would be offended?
You (moderator) should have let it go on, if only so the rest of us could have a giggle. Thats pretty positive surly? I know it was petty, and really, there was no need, but you could have let it go on a little more.

Thanks for your response. Obviously there is never going to be total PLUR, unless you're overly idealistic.

I just feel that trying to control the forum vibe to such an extent almost becomes antivibes. Like the security plodding around at the last DMZ, for example.

I agree there should be some form of regulation but perhaps this should result in moderator comments rather than resorting to such extreme measures.

I'm off for some pre FWD beers now, would love to get more opinions on this. Keep it democratic.

I believe Mr Ice T said that

so the forum should have a giggle at who's expense? this is EXACTLY what i'm on about about postive vibes. this is a music forum. not a drama convention. if you want drama, porn, fireworks and bickering>>>doa is a good start.

the only difference is: when topic is locked you see it, and when topic is deleted and member is banned you don't see it.

moral: delete/ban and you will have better vibe on forum :?

I gotta agree with boomnoise on this too... Forums are a place to leave comments good and bad...

I remember reading a quote online that just sums it up... " Opinions are like arseholes, Everyone's got em"..

Dubway mate if you agree with Boomnoise sort it... I still see you as the main man.. you got this thing off the ground bro.. its your baby so have the final say...

In relation to the post about auralassassin.. well i remember this dude getting a few peoples backs up on here not to long ago, he's seems like he's got a lot to say, so why can't he defend himself... If the post schism left is untrue, auralassassin can speak up.. if not schism might be trying to do us a favour...

I would love this place to stay constructive, have a few jokes and meet likeminded people. I don't want it to turn into a playground or DOA but i feel it slowly is.. Heavy forum police IMO are probably gonna make it worse...

Crap will be moved to "Offtopic and Crap" forum (this one) and will NOT be locked.

slander, porn, sexually related content , anti-religious images, controversial icons/symbols etc.
will be locked for moral and legal reasons.

So can I tell DM to come back if he behaves ? On second thoughts maybe not and I'm not sure if he would want to anyway. I could ask but he'd probably bite my head off and rant at me for the next week or so.
