I don't really get these 'it gets more popular it gets worse' arguments - it's already 10x as big as it was 2 years ago! Just look how big DMZ has got, how many releases are coming out, how many nights and radio shows there are dedicated to it worldwide.

It may be flavour of the month for a while and get some of the transient 'whatever vice says is cool' gang at nights, but this will pass, but as long as they are there for a good time and get in with the general good vibe at dubstep nights than fair enough.

It's good promotion though and for the labels, DJs and producers it means a larger fan base and a bit more money to fill up their fridge. Of course for the raves it means you might get a few more dickheads!!
fair point, is good for the producers, but more dickheads is not good
Even if the big nights get swamped with dickheads you're still going to get smaller and newer and less well known things with nice vibes, though. And smaller's a relative thing if the scene keeps growing...

...thats cos i work there at the weekends and the managers thought they were doing me a favour...only 1 has been sold lol

but back to the subject, i think this thing (display/promotion) has occurred because 'relationships' are being made with suppliers/labels, tbh its not just hmv saying 'hey, lets promote dubstep today it will make us tons of cash' its because labels are approaching hmv & zavvi (with a bit of money) and saying 'can you help promote us'...they call it supplier commitment, suppliers/labels usually pay to 'rent' a stand in big record shops like hmv and zavvi...usually the chart offers you see at the front of these stores and new music sections.

this is how music retail works, it sucks to a certain extent but hmv, zavvi and labels need to make money somewhere.

i've also just relised that if u smile at those dickheads in the raves they usually smile back and if they see a sense of unity witin the dubstep community they will prob want to join in.

It can't be a coincidence that it is timed at the sametime as the release of Night also, just like they are promoting a Bassline comp following the charting of Heartbroken.
