oooooOOOOOOOO!!

someone's breaking the law!

not strictly true...a fair few tings are legally distributed via bittorrent....i think
big up for that bleepincomputer link n all pk-
yep there's lots of legal things to download on certain major torrent sites that also offer 'illegal' things.
its also completely legal to download things you already own via torrent sites.
i still believe that even 'illegally' downloading people's music at low bitrates (usually the case) is a good form of promotion and should not be illegal. 256-320s, oggs and wavs of the music should be illegal unless you can prove you own or used to own a physical copy.
but yeah, avg free is alright. its easy to get the full version though, it protects you computer more.
the best way to keep your pc safe is to BE SAFE when you're online though. its a cliche to say it now, but be careful what .dll and .exe files you download or run. regularly check your task manager (ALT CTRL DEL, processes) to see what programs are running. order them by memory usage and investigate. things that show up in that list that are using very little memory to run and have a funny name could be trojans, spyware, malware, anything. if you don't trust the process, google its name, if it is safe - like a windows process or alcohol 120% virtual drive for instance, remember its name. if google confirms it is a virus, take a note of its file name, search for it on your computer, locate the file, end the process in task manager, then delete the file.
virus programs are good, but its good to be able to find viruses without them because these programs are not 100% reliable. people that write viruses are ALWAYS one step ahead of the software companies.
