how many units does the average dubstep plate sell?
just wondering, like the subject says, how many units does the average dubstep plate sell in the shops?
any artists/label owners in here know? i'm curious.
and by average, im not talking stuff like planet mu/rephlex, talkin smaller DIY dubstep labels.

i reckon an artist like skream could blatantly sell 1000 copies in a couple weeks

word, yo, 500 is standard underground press....
thing is, tune takes off, repress the next 500 costs like half what the original press costs, cause youve already done your mixdown, mastering, laquers & stampers....
i honestly have no idea what dubstep is selling right now (although i do know for sure aint no stores in NYC that can stay sufficiantly stocked due to demand) but north american ragga jungle things sell 500 - 1000 with decent distro & outlets like redeye, juno etc.....

definately not. pressing out records is no kind of money game for any label trying to get up, especially when dealing with underground music.Spaceboy wrote:it's not a money making game unfortunately, if your going into underground music to become rich, then change the aim before getting too deep into it.
the reason i ask tho is cuz i've been thinkin about starting a dubstep label up lately. with everything i do, i cant stop thinking of it. so serious. im in the shower : dubstep label. im grocery shopping : dubstep label. hanging out with friends : dubstep label. for the past week ive literally lost sleep over it cuz i cant go to bed without thinking of what i have to do to start one.
it's literally all i can think about. obsessing over it very badly right now. at this point, just getting like a plate out real quickly would really make me happy.

pressing issues on point?ramadanman wrote:pressing issues
i cant really press in the uk because of the us dollar/gb pound conversion. waaaaaay too expensive.
i was gonna get someone that deals with dnb to do the master and cut the lathe tho, someone like stu @ metropolis or somethin. that's who dillinja used to deal with (still deals with? i dunno). mastering HAS to be done in the uk, ALWAYS.
rand muzik in germany is my current pressing plant. they are fucking CHEAP and just did me up some very beautiful 140 gram vinyl records. so solid.
