How many people have dubplates?

Post by addict » Mon Mar 17, 2008 6:57 pm

just wondering how many of you have got your own stuff cut to dub? Really wanna get 2 or 3 tracks cut jus for mixing/playing out purposes but its pretty expensive. cheapest ive found it is 30-40quid for one 12", 9 mins each side.

I was playing with the thought but since we use Serato I just don't see the point anymore. It works extremely well without delay, it feels like proper vinyl too and sounds as good as your mixdown. The only thing is that you won't have a professional engineer.

2nd that. Save for a Serato mate, you won't regret it.
Plus, they're expensive in EU but they go way cheaper in the US and since they're USB devices you won't need any power converter.

But then again, some people don't have serato, and if you wanna get a promo tune for eeeeeveryone, I think a dubplate would be a good idea.

Or the iDJ, i herd its da shit, cuz no priks is usin it.

That's why we keep advertising it.

i plan to get some stuff put on vinyl (not dubstep.)

i'm not worried about getting it sounding world-class, i just want to have some crazy music of my own that will make people laugh.

definately 7" too, i'm not going to shell out for a 12" or 10"

i might get a scratch record on 12" though with loads of my own samples and things that make me laugh

if i had a tune that i was seriously happy with, i would get it cut, but the problem is i find it hard to leave tracks alone and for the meantime i just mix it in with my cdj200

yup. not sure about international shipping but turnstyle records in california for us stateside heads is great-- 10" dubs are about $30, and oscar and them give a nice cut.

i use serato; i use dubs as well. different animals.

Hmmm I guess cutting to vinyl for some is a religious experience! From years of collecting vinyl, all I can say is yes cut it! It's really nice to have it to hold in your hands, your own art! Feels special! It does!

Used to use Music House in North London for cutting dubs back in mid 90's. Was the place to get the Jungle dubs cut

Heard they've gone downhill and been superseded by other cutting houses.

Don't get them cut anymore as I don't DJ.

Love the smell of 'em though...
Bored of the same old fucking shit.

Bollocks to it...

cutting gives so much more deepness to ur sound.. and if you take care of ur plates u can play them lots.. still playing dubs i cut allmost year ago!

it cost $$$ but worth of every cent. i cut my plates at transition, not the cheapest but LD knows how to make it sound propa

i cut all my dubs to memorex 4.5" son

you vinyl heads got no idea bout dat 4.5".....can always be reburned if yo make your own tunes or have a harddrive, never skips, never has dust issues, and never makes a poorly mixed down tune sound better than it is due to 'vinyl mastering' or whatever the hell normal listeners consider a bass boost and a limiter to be...lolz

but yea for real....id honestly play my own tunes on cdj these days, even the ones coming out on vinyl... more power to you guys willing to support 12" stuff and buy my tunes on wax instead of stealing them in mp3 format off the torrents and shit

cheers for everyone's reply's, thought this wud get you guys talking ;)

Think i will at somepoint get 2 or tracks cut to dub, especially that ive recently learnt that places do better dubs that can last a lot longer than standards.

To the Serato users, i REALLY want it but what am i a rockafella!! jokes, prob save for that too, along with a list of other things about as long as working at ASDA.

P.S Anyone wanna buy sum gemini TT-02's and a Numark DXM06?? i keep seeing 1210's for sale up ere in glasgow for like 2-300 pounds. fucking silly money.

yeah i really hate cd decks. maybe i'm just not used to them. serato is wicked to use, but a pain in the arse to set up (especially whilst another dj is playing!) lots of different things that can go wrong too - laptop buggers up, usb cable is removed so everything goes dead, grounding issues

nothing like the simplicity of dubplates! i say that as someone who doen't use 'em though ;)

i wanted to get serato for a while, but my laptop has a problem of buzzing when the charger is plugged in then plugged into a mixer lol, plus i wouldn't have space for something like serato plus 320 wavs.

dubplates are simple...i dont have many because of money, but i've started budgeting them and over time i wish to use only dubplates
