Mixer for my Laptop

Post by silentk » Tue Mar 25, 2008 1:15 pm

right, i understand this is going to be a confusing quesiton but any help appreciated.

I currently use FL studio 7, i use a laptop and a E-mu 0202 USB interface.

Basicaly what i want to do, is be able to route channels from fruity, to a mixer where i can use guitar pedals etc as FX then back into fruity again.

for example, take a bassline i have made, run it through a distortion pedal, then run it back into fruity.

At the moment i can just route the output of my 0202 into a pedal, then run that into one of the 0202's inputs, but then im just putting the entire output through it, i want to be able to route specific tracks.

i should also add that im not looking to spend vast amounts of money, if i could find something for under £100 that would be great.
Cheers for any help.

i cant do it like that, if i send the output of the 0202 to a pedal, then back into and input. it just creates a loop and i get a horrible (yet quite hipnotic) continuous noise.

i do this with my pc.... but i have an 8 input/8 output sound card and have my mackie mixer hooked up to it... i dont know if you can put the soundcard i've got in a laptop.. http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/D ... -main.html

you'll probably have to get a firewire interface with more ins/outs and a seperate mixer

also... i dont use fruity loops or that interface, but could you run the channel that you want to be effected out the interface, through the effects, back into another channel in fruity loops, but not have the effected channel coming out of the interface?? that should eliminate the feedback loop?

agreed, thats what i was gonna say but i thought he had the 'output' track on Solo

if its just a case of you not having muted the 'input' track (ie the one recording the stuff back in) then hit mute and your feedback will be destroyed!

Not if you don't monitor the input from Patchmix DSP. A mixer's not the answer, it's just going to act as another 'effect' (one that doesn't actually do anything) in the signal chain.

I'm using an Emu 1616, you can get laptop models, it comes with a digital mixer (software) that lets you route any of the ins and outs anyway you like. You can set up and sends and returns so you wont get feedback.

what you need to do to stop the feedback is to disable your input channels from 'monitoring thru'

basically you just want to not hear the channel(s) you are recording onto at the output.

not sure if you do that in your audio control panel for windows, the control panel for your sound card or in FL

but that will fix your problem

yeah, unless i've made a very big mistake, i think the whole point of this soundcard is it's "simplicity" also seems to be it's biggest downfall :S
