I totally agree with you. Most artists that are overrated will probably become overated by being signed straight onto a big label. Pinch made Qawwali ages ago, and if you compare that to what he was making now, he wouldn't be signed. If Pinch gave Qawalli to a label in this era he wouldn't be where he is. Same with a lot of producers. Omen and Random Trio. I rate them highly, and they are my friends, but they made a tune called Red Button (or something along those lines) about 2 years ago. If they was to give that to Contagious I don't believe it would be released. The industry has changed these days. It's not about what people want, its about what people think will go 'off in a club'steppa4ever wrote:BlizzardMusic wrote:Burial is over-rated. Thread's like these hide other producers that should be getting equal respect and rep for their tunes. Silkie is equally as good as Burial!
I would never ever put silkie next to burial, silkie is on ANOTHER LEVEL and quest aswell. There are even other producers on this forum alone that is better that burial and dont even get a look in, dont get me wrong, its not a competition or anything, but, i just quite simply think, he is weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeellllllll over rated, take his first album away from hyper dub and put on a label thats unknown, then we will c what music can do da talking.
I am not punching burial in the face, im just simply giving my opinion on his 'GREAT' music.Lol
Burial is a genius.

Also, Clouds is one of the most underrated producers I've come across. He's equally as good as Burial. He can make tunes that can sooth you and still can go off in a club, plain example 'Under Dancing Feet'.

debate is good. you're not a militant burial fan are you?Shook1 wrote:This debates just long!
You like him or you don't it's that simple. Personally think his tracks are deep, i feel the same for quest, silkie, mala, kode 9, martyn etc. It's all just sick music, why whinge about any of it. Just buy and listen to what you want, let everyone else deal with the rest!
Out to people getting on there high horses acting like there special cause there not affected by the burial hype or whatever though, thats long. Man was big before untrue blew up simple as.
Nah mate.
Am not a militant anything fan, i just love this music. I Just like burial, got something to him, the way he uses vocals is on it, the use of 2 step beats. Am just feeling it.
Just some people's arguments are a bit like whatever, banging on about the hype and acting like it's down to the press and marketing. Dunno about anyone else but really not that affected by what other people chat about listening to. Burial has done what he's done, it sounds good to me, some people wanna listen, some people dont, its just upto you. It's dubstep/garage regardless of wether it sounds same as everything else in the 'genre'.
Am rambling but whatever got what i basicaly felt like saying across.

Before every man and his dog was calling Untrue album of the year there was already a core fan base within the dubstep scene for Burial. I'm sure within that core are many of the foremost producers/DJs in the scene. The idea that he's ONLY big because of Hyperdub?! lol
It is unfortunate that he's had SO MUCH hype around him because it does get a bit nauseating but producing tunes like South London Boroughs, U Hurt Me, Broken Home, Archangel, Shell of Light, Unite, Raver... Fuck off the guy's a don.

IMHO burial is the greatest producer of the lasts 3 years...
When I've heared dubstep for 1st time I'm falling in love with it,
but when I've heared burial for the first time I've founded in his music more than dubstep:
soul, xperimental, idm, avant-garde, rithm and blues, elettroacustic etc...
I like very much dubstep music but sometimes, and only sometimes it's "easylistening"....
I hate Easylistening music, is soo stupid
, I like only Xperimental and "intelligent kinds of music hearing", and burial's music is exactly this....
you can dance it but you can reasoning out on it, you can hear it when you're serene, sweetheart, bored, dark, melancolich or sad...
this is music: a partner for your mood, a partner for your soul, a balsam for your mood, a balsam for your soul.
... I hate people that hearing music when works with vacuum cleaner, and soo much people do it.. arghhhh

ps. when I've heared burial I didn't knew about hyperdub, I never judge music by the label...
for ex. I love warp records and planet-mu, but I love much more indipendents IDM xperimental labels...
judging music by the label is for snotty and for people that don't love music.
imho, naturally.

Not really related but,
IDM, Intelligent Dance Music, the name of that genre is so pretentious it's jokes.
Squarepusher, Aphex whatever, dont know a lot of the artist's in the genre, but one thing i can say is it all just get's a bit much for me.
Don't think burial is anywhere near IDM just cause it's a bit different.

sorry im not having a dig but what the fuck are you talkin about?BlizzardMusic wrote:Pinch made Qawwali ages ago, and if you compare that to what he was making now, he wouldn't be signed.

Firstly why would Pinch not be signed based on what he's producing now thats a fuckin stupid statement! He's released an album recently not to mention other material being put out. An when I seen him last month dropped one of the best sets i've heard in a while(an i've been to few nights). Fair enough if your not into it, but ill think you'll find plenty of ppl are!
Secondly, i'm sure im not wrong in sayin the majority of producers in dubstep aren't makin a proper living from doing it. Therefore, they are making music they want to make an might not necessarily care if it "goes off in a club"
infact what do you mean exactly do you mean by "goin off in club" Thats pretty generalised statement, given the range of dubstep about.

Right. You know that tune? Qawwali? It's not as good as his new stuff? You know, new stuff? His NEW STUFF compared to what he was making years ago? You know, YEARS ago? If he released his OLD STUFF? like QAWALLI? Now? He wouldn't get signed for it? You know, SIGNED FOR IT?daggus wrote:sorry im not having a dig but what the fuck are you talkin about?BlizzardMusic wrote:Pinch made Qawwali ages ago, and if you compare that to what he was making now, he wouldn't be signed.

GOING OFF IN A CLUB = Getting a good reaction in a club, but let me make it easy for you
Good - having desirable or positive qualities especially those suitable for a thing specified; "good news from the hospital"; "a good report card"; "when ...
Reaction - a response that reveals a person's feelings or attitude; "he was pleased by the audience's reaction to his performance"; "John feared his mother's ...
Club - A club is generally an association of people united by a common interest or goal, as opposed to any natural ties of kinship. Such clubs occur in all ancient states of which we have detailed knowledge. .

also for my point of view, in fact I say "intelligent kinds of music hearing" and say only the abbrevation "IDM" used like a label for the genre.Shook1 wrote:Not really related but,

burial's music is very very much influenced by xperimental electronic music in general the same way it's influenced by soul, r'n'b, 80's disco etc.., I did'n say "near idm"Shook1 wrote: Don't think burial is anywhere near IDM just cause it's a bit different.
...but I can found things in burial's music that can be bring back to the xperimental electronic scene...

Well...game over
Ive given blizzard alot of chances before, but...what the hell
Too many incredibly unfounded opinions flying about this topic, laters! (okay, just a few I cant be bothered with, dont mind people not liking his tunes, but when it comes to saying that the only reason his music is heralded as brilliant is due to some marketing ploy, theres no comeback spite filled enough)
If anyone in the world produced Qawalli today, it would be signed instantly, released, heralded as musical genius and would sell as so...
Edit: Cant believe I only just remembered! @ Blizzard, Qawalli was released recently again on underwater dancehall...its on there twice in fact.

Quentin feels tired.
Also Blizzle, he owns Tectonic, so he can release everything he wants to (and it's 99% aces).
Bass Master General

Christ i've had more enjoyment an sense from talking to one of my own shites
dont know why i'm even responding to you given you dont have a fuckin clue what your talking about.
ok get a thesaurus handy incase you dont understand some of the bigger words. Maybe even ask mummy and daddy to help you out if you get stuck.
Britney Spears could go "off in a club" by shoving a mic up her arse. Now while that may get good reaction. That wouldn't require skill or talent, but potenially could get a good reaction. It's not about what people want, its about what people think will go 'off in a club'
Funnily enough music which may not be particularly well produced or some may not even like can go off in a club.
Hence why I asked because theres a lot of scope for what can go off in a club
Now take your time maybe read this a few times try to get your fuckin stupid little brain round it
Ooh, the backlash! The backlash!
I'm certainly not saying that everyone has to like his music. But I do think it's genius and I stand by that comment. I'm also probably one of those people who doesn't understand how anyone can at the very least appreciate the talent, even if they don't actually like the content. I'm very passionate about the music I love and I have such conviction in my assessment of say, Burial's talent, that yes I do struggle to see how other people don't at least think he's good. But then, to be fair, I think most people here do at least think he's good whether they like his stuff or not (the second album for instance contains a lot of vocals that divide opinions).
By the way, I'm certainly not expecting everyone to agree with me that he's a genius. But I think he is so I said it.
Another thing- many of the comments here suggest people are getting bored with lots of Burial threads. Fair enough, but I don't spend most my life on the forum, not most my life listening to dubstep (let's not get into another semantic debate about whether Burial makes dubstep or not eh?
), so don't expect me to know how bored or not you are of seeing the threads.
I'm not kissing anyone's arse. I'm calling it like I see (or more accurately, hear) it. Simple really.
Regarding people buying it because The Guardian or whoever the fuck recommended it..well what's wrong with exposure? What's wrong with promotion, Jesus, get off your underground high horses some of you.
If someone happens to get into Burial, and then maybe more music a lot of us on this board love thanks to such exposure, fair play.
Personally, I bought my first "dark garage" (or "breakstep" as it was called then) record about five or six years ago. Then I got into the sound that gradually became known more as dubstep over subsequent years, but especially the past few years. So I'm no "fashionista".
But who actually gives a shit? What does it prove to tell you how long I've been into this music? Nothing because it doesn't matter.
But I did have the urge to point out I'm not a fucking fashionista ok?
