Stateside vinyl stores

Post by kani » Thu Apr 17, 2008 11:39 pm

So... considering the dollar is dropping like a rock, (but not enough for me to stop buying expendables such as dubstep rekkids) anyone recommend a good stateside record store so i dont have to keep paying royally expensive mail?

and for anyone who might feel the need to inform me of the 'google'.. just try googling 'dubstep, vinyl, $, united states, LA, Toronto, NYC, Chicago, SF.. etc." or dance record store even. nilz

i've heard they don't update their site as much as they should, so a lot of the back cat stuff they might not actually have....

if you stick with redeye you usually don't pay much more then $11/12" if buy a couple at a time. but their shipping takes awhile sometimes.

You can say that again. I've placed sizable orders with them twice now only to be told they only had one or two out of eight plates I wanted.

I'd love to support a US business, but I'd rather pay a little more from a UK shop and actually get the record I'm after... :?

I've gone through what your going through, and I've found that Redeye is the best. They might not get new stuff in right away, but shipping is half what it is from Chemical, and billions less than dubplate. I've bought from Forced Exposure, Dance Records, and Redeye.

Also from Amoeba, in SF. You save on shipping going to a store, but its probably more expensive. I got Diary of an Afro Warrior from there for $27, goes for about $23 at Redeye.

even w/shipping included buying from redeye or chemical is still about the same (if not slightly cheaper) as buying from most of my local stores. at $12.99 usd + tax here plus having to wait weeks longer before they arrive stateside i'm still going uk.

In the Washington, DC area one shop that carried dubstep closed down in March, and then another (Dj Hut) reopened in the middle of NW DC and is stocking dubstep. I don't know who they have distro accounts with, but I swung by on Thursday night this week and picked up a few releases.

I think they only have one or two bins of dubstep, then two bins of drum'n'bass, and then tons of hip-hop and house. Also, the dubstep and drum'n'bass selection seemed to be about a week behind what you'd see listed on Chemical and Red Eye.

The singles tended to be $12.49 ~ $12.99, and I have a feeling they mark up the price on multi-vinyl EPs a lot.

you're so lucky yo !! the best record shop here specializes in bluegrass...1 bin of hip hop, 1 bin of metal, half a bin of warp records/chemical bros/NIN/shit

guess we're lucky here to have at least three decent shops in seattle that stock most releases. if i sleep on something it's usually sitting around collecting dust in one of em.

if you're up on your releases then you can't go wrong w/ FE. $4 fixed shipping via ups no matter how big your order. obvious that you can't depend on them to keep their shit updated and current if you're trying to pick up older stuff.
