i remember reading a kode9 interview and he was saying something about most of the big time producers / djs still have full time jobs. So i wouldnt say alot

I also remember him saying that what he earns from record labels and nights just usually gets spent on more equipment pocket money kinda thing.

nah not verbose enough. pretty stupid topic right here; surely if you really wanna know, ring their agents and get quotes. most amateur ppl i know are happy enough to dj for free anyhow, as it should be.

when i used to float around the dnb dj scene as long as it didn't cost me to do it i was a happy man. free drinks, few quid for train if needed etc. i had a full time job anyway and preferred it like that, i didn't want it to become a chore.

if your cutting dubs on a weekly(ish) basis then you have to think how much that is costing you. 30/dub x however many you cut isnt cheap. alot of guys dont do it for money and im sure most dj's will understand this. making REAL money out of doing music is pretty rare these days. depends what gig your playing though.

I dont want quotes for DJ's. Just curious as to how much some of the clubs pay. Like does fabric have a standard fee or is it dependent on what the agent asks for ? Eg do you get more for playing the main room, less for room 2 and even less for room 3 and how do they set fees ?According to a DJ's profile in the scene ?

Must be hard to determine a DJ's worth.

quite a ridiculous response to this thread. why is it such heresy to be intrigued by potential differences in attitudes towards dj fees between countries. i'm certainly interested. i'd love to know if there are certain places in the country/world where the dynamic between dj's and promoters/punters is distinct, and how that reflects itself in dj fees, the atmosphere surrounding gigs and nights out, the use and role of agents, and a whole host of other outcomes which are obviously correlated with the musical/promotional norms of the area.

why is this 'ugly' to speak of? there's no ill-intent in my intrigue surrounding these sorts of things. the music which is made will always be a function of the context in which it was made, and imo a crucial aspect of that context is the logistical side of club nights i.e. fees.

bristol is a nice example. the whole ethos in bristol is distinct from anywhere else i have had associations with. obviously this is down to an infinite number of reasons, but i feel speaking/thinking of the costs surrounding dj's is one area which helps give an insight iinto these differentials in vibe.

Threads like this will make me stay away from dis forum, it could only be sum1 that's signed up recently (jan 2008) that could come up with a thread like this, no disrespect tho that person, but i feel this thread is an insult to dj's who work hard in the scene!
