mpc 2500

Post by procephus » Fri Apr 25, 2008 2:58 am

i own an mpc 2500 that i've had for awile making hip hop, and some various other craziness. i was wondering if anyone knew of(or was) a dubstep producer who worked with an mpc a lot. i'd just like to hear how it sounds compared to some beats i've made that were software based. im also considering buying Reason. does anyone think those would work well together, or would they mostly be two seperate entities?

buy a daw with vst's possibilitys

no offence, i was a reason user but the vst's are more flexibel and some mastering/mixdown things are easier to find.

I use an mpc2500 quite a lot with dubstep stuff, alongside cubase sx. Nothing beats it for beats, but I like using vsti's and plugins too much to do everything on the 2500.

My advice would be to get something more like cubase/logic/sonar etc rather than reason, 'cos you'll be able to integrate it better with the mpc. Reason is cool, but being able to record directly in with midi sync is too good to not take advantage of. if you've got multiple ins on your sound card you'll love it even more.

logic studio at $500US cant be beat IMO, but what do i know.

im using mpc1000 and since i have no real soundcard or interface or DAW (in time my son) i just use reason intstruments, feed them through some outboard effects and then sample them into the MPC.. sometimes ill sample single notes/chords and perform on MPC, othertimes ill perform on reason and record a full 4bar loop or whatever and use that as a sample in MPC

not saying its the best operation but with what i have it works for now and it can be done. but definitely get an interface/DAW if you can afford it. thankfully i have some outboard gear that beefs up some of the weaker thinner sounds that my headphone jack spits out

ive got an mpc500 man and ive often asked myself the same thing. It's really good for drum patterns and also u can make gd basslines on it by using a sampler like massive to create a sound on your computer and then loading the sound onto the mpc and using the 12 levels function to programme the notes

Akai manuals are a joke. I bought this book last year. It's worth every cent/penny because I now use 85% of the MPC, instead of 20% before. There should be an example chapter...
