my hearing use to get fucked for a good few hours everynight from our drummer and 3 4x12 speaker cabs.
in the end got some discrete made to fit earplugs no muffled sound like cheap ones, they keep clarity, £8 well spent.

IIRC 90dB is the limit at which uk health and safety laws say you can work without ear protection for 8 hours - so it's not too high. above that, the limit that you should be allowed to work without ear protection halves for every 3dB - so at 102dB you should only be exposed to the noise for 30 minutes unless you have plugs/ear defenders.MrHope wrote:I'd suggest at least 25 dB of attenuation. Anything else probably isn't enough to bring your ears out of the danger zone (around 90 dB and above). Really 90 dB is already pretty high.Whineo wrote:Right thats it - definately getting some custom earplugs
Which noise reduction filter would people suggest - 9, 15 or 25dB?
personally i use the 15dB gain reduction ones; these are the most common for DJ/live work. they're really good, def recommend them (have never tried the 25's but i think they might isolate you a little bit too much)
I heard these are pretty good too:

good topic. Its something i've been starting to be aware of recently as a few of my mqates have been complaining about tinnitus. I'm pretty bad for listening to shit loud as fuck and as audio engineering is something im pursuing as a career it'd affect me a hell of a lot.
Time to turn it down a little methinks.

Here in Germany there is a brand called hearsafe, that sells them with a little compartment that is attachable to a keychain, I use that and since I have I did not loose a single one...
