distorted midrange basslines and compressed synth drums ...

Post by cansoe » Wed Jun 28, 2006 7:25 pm

i feel some of the dubstep stuff around is going real nasty with all that
dist.midrangebass (vex'd) and those (over)compressed beats like techitch.

for me it needs more roots reggae snips, sampled, layered drums and a nice
bassline with not too much distortion please.

whats your pick?

ok bro, you still know what im talking about...
most ppl do play it under the dubstep belt.
educate me with some genre bashing if you want tho ...hope its not as queer as in the dnb ;)

Yes, Vex'd are not dubstep purists.
I've voted for 60Hz because i dislike new-style dnb influenced dubstep not because i dislike distorted mids.
Vex'd can next level it like one else making dubstep. More power to them... and more freedom.
Beware gratuitus use of reggae samples.

I've heard both flavors done well and done... not so well :6:, and generally I like both. Variety being the spice of life and all that.

I'm not too bothered how to classify this music, what matters is what's pleasing to your ears. :)

Should we get tee shirts made? :6:

On the subject of classification... something I read recently on a d&b forum which rang true, was that drum & bass has become just a tempo. There's such a wide array of styles, drum & bass is really an umbrella term for everything with a certain kick-snare pattern around 174 bpm. I see different styles emerging within the umbrella term of dubstep in this same way, producers drawing inspiration from other genres, and it's very promising. :) It's a good time to be into this music.
