..and yeah it was post Courtney, Ozeb - Courtney does of course, get her tits out regardless of whether it's requested or not, but then she's also an ex-stripper and desperate-attention seeker - she'd probably be more shocking keeping them in occassionally, but then people might notice her music's not all that good.
Hmm....

i do hope you are joking. if you aren't...not funny. if you are...umm...still not funny. even jokingly saying that is a great example of why music stays in "sausage" mode. women get sick and tired of hearing bullshit statements like this. some of them, like myself, just say fuck off and go on about our business, but some women are freaked out by it and just don't wanna deal with it, so they just don't bother.Paulie wrote:Maybe women just know they're not very good at music so they don't try.
but we are here. believe me, we are here. and anyone who doubts women can produce can just head right the heck over to my myspace (in my sig) and chew on those beats for a while...it's hard techno, but i do believe it gets the point across.
same goes for djing...check the website (also in the sig)...
been whiling away in the studio makin dubstep beats lately (i just can't get the subbass out of my head long enough to work on techno these days), so expect tunes soon...and anyone who wants links to dubstep mixes, just PM me...
p.s. paulie i would really like for you to clarify your statement. if it was meant in jest, it remains simply stupid. if it was meant in seriousness, let me know so i can never buy another hotflush record again. thanks...

Believe me, I would love to release tunes made by a woman but the bottom line I haven't come across any that I would consider. Of course it would be stupid to make the generalisation that all women are rubbish at music, and I'm sure no end of sociological points could made as to why more women don't get involved, and if they do just sing on tunes made by men. Quite what would be achieved by doing so is beyond me, however. I'm sure you can find a suitably navel-gazing Dissensus thread on the matter.
The fact of the matter is, if you make tunes that are good enough and get them to the right people you will be noticed, it doesn't matter who (or what) you are.
LMAO @ "sausage mode" btw.

aight...i just get a bit...twitchy...about stuff like that. mostly cuz...well...i have heard those statements spit out in all seriousness before...multiple times. and it does get a little old. so i tend to get my feathers ruffled pretty quick, even when it's said jokingly...Paulie wrote:Of course I was joking, FFS.sapphic_beats wrote:i do hope you are joking. if you aren't...not funny. if you are...umm...still not funny. even jokingly saying that is a great example of why music stays in "sausage" mode. women get sick and tired of hearing bullshit statements like this. some of them, like myself, just say fuck off and go on about our business, but some women are freaked out by it and just don't wanna deal with it, so they just don't bother.Paulie wrote:Maybe women just know they're not very good at music so they don't try.

you are right that we could delve into pages and pages of sociological reasons for this phenomena (and believe me i have), but i won't at this point (mostly because i am writing this PRE-morning coffee ;p).
suffice it to say that there are more women making music, djing, putting on events, designing graphics, taking photos and just generally being involved in music than ever before right now, but the ones that tend to get seen the most are the ones who'll strut their cleavage for the camera. that's not to say those are the only ones who get noticed, but they are the ones who get the most...erm...exposure, shall we say.
that said, i was at a party in my hometown this weekend where the women who spin/produce equalled in number the men in the room who do. that, to me, is a good thing.

i have to say that i have been lucky in that i have an incredible support network (women and men) who have always encouraged me to produce, and given me lots of pointers. the sad thing is that a lot of women don't feel like they have that support. best thing guys can do if they want more women to make music, is encourage the ones who want to produce. just let em know that they can do it, because many are still intimidated by the "boy's club". sometimes all it takes is an encouraging word and a little support, and you would be surprised by the results.

thus ends my pre-cafffeination ramble...

now now. i like the way you can profile the racial makeup of a whole forum so easily and claim a lack of knowledge or valid commentry on something as non race-biased as music! please, dude!Spaceboy wrote:Dissensus forum gives me joke...bunch of white dudes given it the large on grime and hiphop....
what do u know????
(and im not being racist before u start!!! pls)

you can claim people don't know their shit, but not on grounds of race - that is racist!
Come on, he is right!!boomnoise wrote:now now. i like the way you can profile the racial makeup of a whole forum so easilySpaceboy wrote:Dissensus forum gives me joke...bunch of white dudes given it the large on grime and hiphop....

i'm not white, and i dont like having to point that out.
most magazine music writers, or writers in general, are white so whats your point? so are most english speaking people on the internet.
you can get a giant crew of desi or black kids who love a genre of music but their efforts at pushing that sound aren't going to do a dumb bit of difference unless you have white people who believe in the same thing you do.
honestly, i understand why people don't like chin-stroking, but if i want to read "this is big", "yo that tune is sick", "have you seen this video of a monkey smoking and whistling at the same time" there are a million other places i can check. people that care about music enough to listen to other people's opinions hang out on dissensus. it might suck sometime, but it's not as boring as watching television or looking at jenna jameson's twat for the millionth time.

true enough, but there's a lot of them most places. dissensus can overintellectualise, which is particularly amusing when discussing stuff like grime lyrics <so, like, what is the sociological origin of 'wasteman'?> etc, but generally ppl know what they're talking about and have a genuine interest. and it does provide a hefty counterweight to pages of 'big ups'Paulie wrote:ADRUU wrote:it might suck sometime, but it's not as boring as watching television or looking at jenna jameson's twat for the millionth time.![]()
There's so many self-satisfied dicks on Dissensus though.
(having said that, I could do without stuff like complaints about fwd>> being 'too white').
just like I could do without overgendering bloody everything, actually. girls aren't more emotional/less techy purely by virtue of being female. boys aren't all sexist dicks (although some of you on here have a good go). and girls get mileage every day just out of being girls - whole load of extra charms at your disposal - and should admit as much.
