Forum members have been invited by Mary to view the vid of her set.
I did.
I thought it was derivative (e.g. Cockney Thug intro)
and the hype annoying.
I've said so.

No, I haven't been to Sonar.
Have you been to Kabul? (same relevance)
Weekend plane flights aren't on my current agenda.

Some of my countrymen disagree with me ... that's their prerogative.

Seems to me that something or someone's become too precious here. None of us is beyond criticism, particularly those who trade in influence.

I've only gone for Sónar day, maybe a mistake this time. I feel it gets worse every year, but the things that are GOOD make me come back.
Like...

Bass Clef (with a crazy merengue-techno last song and that trombone)
Ove Naxxx (fashion sense only bettered by the music and that "copulating with the cosmos" coreography)
Yellow Swans (a bit too long, first half was outstanding)
Duloks (yes, I said it)
and the Thugs'n'Hugs party with Hudmo, Rustie etc. that was not actually part of Sónar.

And listening to Adam F's Metropolis at the Red Bull Lounge. I felt like moshing and the girl playing it felt like yawning, it seemed.

Loud E disco on the thursday night

i swear, this forum has given a platform for anyone to call nearly anything "critique". some people couldn't critique their way out of a bag of hammers.

Shack looks fucking good live, must catch him at some point.

Fuck I'm gutted I flopped Sonar lol

Out of interest, @ blip: ''I've only gone for Sónar day, maybe a mistake this time. I feel it gets worse every year, but the things that are GOOD make me come back.''- how does it get worse every year?

If this set was played at Void
I'd walk out feeling ripped off.
It's just hyping...
and no way experimental.
:r:

And if the excuse is that it's for noobs
(as if everyone in the bored crowd hadn't heard ds before)
even worse cos that's comprimising the art.
:(

For what?
:?:

Bring on the attempted justifications.
you may have a point, you may not. i'm not saying anything - i was at sonar but didn't see the set. maybe if you came less like a 6th form poet it might help - delivery is around 8/10 of impression, ya nuh?

anyways, sonar was great, great, great. particular non-ds highlights were the buraka djs, mehdi & a-trak and (hands up if you're old enuf to remember) yazoo. big up alison moyet pulling the c.1982 moves. as this was my 1st i'd be interested to hear how it's got worse too (blip...)

ps - spain, spain, spain - pls sort our yr racist ways. so off key in this day and age and so disappointing in what is otherwise a beautiful city/country

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS what an awesome holiday

my highlights included:
pre-sonar dubstep party at Expressing underground club - wicked vibes, good to see how the barcelonans rock it
TRG set in the red bull lounge - dirty hot and sweaty up there
Pan sonic -crrrrrrrashing noise; sound was impeccable
the ridiculous Minus hyperbole
mala smashing the place to pieces
rustie/hud mo/flying lo mashup as the sun came up, BOSH
skweee showcase - OFF THE SCALE!! those boys effing rocked it! easily the best atmosphere of the whole festival too
villalobos dropping the mystery Nina Simone remix
Monza beach party at playa del prat - crazy taxi journey then 2 hr walk through what looked like the set of a horror movie to get there, but my god there's nothing like dancing in the sand all night to EPIC techno oooo

That was a wicked set. When he dropped Oi! Killa! and everyone went nuts, then MAH dropped it the next night to the same reaction :D

Dunno if anyone made it down (venue was absolutely f'ing tiny) but Martyn at the Resident Advisor party was one of the sets of the whole week for me.

Went down with a crew of sceptics who all came out babbling afterwards..
Think there's a few shots here - http://www.residentadvisor.net/photo-ga ... x?set=4064

Because programmming of Sónar Day is getting less and less adventurous. Many times the highlights were artists I had never heard of or listened to before, this time I usually had records from them already.

Maybe they are trying to reach a balance: less "weirdness" during the day, a little bit more at night.

Rachel, your comments about racism in Spain. Ellaborate?

Sonar was real good - enjoyed the Mala set especially. Don't understand how somebody concludes the whole of Spain is racist :?: Wish some peeps would just enjoy music and stop trying on their melodramas...
