the sound in there is really fantastic and i understand that it's kind of set up around it, but the setup of the venue is really awkward and not very condusive for a dance. (i.e. the needles skipping all over the place, not really a defined 'floor' etc.). however, i had a ridiculously good time : ) got to hear such fantastic music, kode9 is a really good live dj (ignoring the technicals) was cool to meet some of you (shiva/timid/etc). i got way to crazy and appologize for any inducing of the skippage ; ) but it was hard to contain my excitement for someone i've followed so closely over the past several years.
highlights of the set were the joker bits/reminicin' remix & the broken heart remix (out to shiva on that one!). huge tunes.
awsome time all together. excellent sets by the locals. glad i was apart of it. hope to party with you guys again sometime soon.

Yes, the decks were on tuna cans and rubber bands. However, some M-447s would've stood up to the vibrations better than the Shure white labels (I think) that he was using. Even when the crowd wasn't bouncing in front of the booth he was having problems.thecoloroflight wrote:Was the issue not so much with the needles than with how the decks were secured to the table ? I think that when he went to cue one deck, the other bounced (?)

Thought so ! I saw those cans wrapped in rubber bands. And I thought "Damn, with all this high class post modern design and high end system, they're using the most makeshift shock-absorbers possible ?" How odd.Sea Monkey wrote:Yes, the decks were on tuna cans and rubber bands. However, some M-447s would've stood up to the vibrations better than the Shure white labels (I think) that he was using. i had a great time despite the frequent needle skips. i drove 4 1/2 hrs from iowa so i just want to thank sonotheque, promoters, phaded & chris widman and anyone else who had a hand in making this night happen. having kode9 be my 1st live dubstep experience was a blessing, sonotheque's system is ridiculous.

yeah i too am still riding high off of seeing one of my favorite producers/djs in dubstep absolutely wreck the place.
and kode 9's selection really proved a point that even amongst technical difficulties, a good time can be had by all if the dj knows what to drop and when.

and other obstacles... nice idea, poor execution? (to be crystal clear, I mean the dance floor)cringer wrote:fuck that rotary mixer. i've played there a few times and records skipping is a common problem once the dance gets going....the floor has a few soft spots
Also, when did they get that bulldog bouncer on staff? That guy actually made me want to leave at bar time.
using that that thing is like trying to fly an airliner.prisoner wrote:that rane is such a good mixer!cringer wrote:fuck that rotary mixer.
i wouldn't say it's for everyone though... ; )
(i figured he just didn't want to use it, plus weren't the tables raised up above where the mixer is, or did i just see it wrong?)
unless your a 48 year old house dj still strung out on coke...fuck that mixer
