Those are all classics - Anything by Backdraft or Bassbin Twins pretty much destroys it too.

When it's proper heavy breaks and not electro it absolutely kills it for me on the floor still. But too often it crosses over into four to the floor and I find myself wanting to stab my ears.

i used to play this stuff all the time, as an alternative to dnb, back in the day. At the time i was doing a long running dnb radioshow, and I was actually buying more breakstep & early dubstep than dnb to play on the show. In 2003/2004, weren't we just calling this stuff breakstep? When i started checking for dubstep back then, alot of the music was played in the same sets, Texture Records was putting out both styles of music, labels like Funkatech, Dj Mutiny - always had a garage influence, J Da Flex, Rat Records.... In some regards, its hard to seperate the crossover influences of the actual musics from the "genre" name.

ugh, breaks. I was into it very temporarily in 2004-ish. It's all way too obvious, buzzy midrange nonsense... a bit like modern d'n'b actually.

The garage end of it (breakstep, breakbeat garage) I'm cool with though.

i wouldnt say tipper is breakstep or at all garage yet his bass clearly pwns the majority if not all dubstep producers..this doesnt make it better music btw...just saying

he blew his ears and has i believe the loudest car rig in the world...he plays through it..

si begg has some pretty low end on his buckfunk 3000 tunes too...

i dunno tbh i probably agree that most breaks is shite but a small percentage of it i fucking love and its a shame for me it's not really getting made anymore...

i remember this mix called 'holographic bassforms'

that was fucking amazing and had a huge effect on me...i loved jungle & hardcore n that back in the day but this is some seriously scientific perfect music for me...when its done right...

the tayo fabric cd is cool...

Si Begg has some nice trax too, but I prefer his 90's techno stuff with Cristian Vogel.

I would highly reccomend looking up the following...
Kerbcrawler - Crack Whore (Quinn Whalley Remix)
Hi-Fi Bugs - Lydian & The Dinosaur
Bushwacka! releases on Plate
All early Marine Parade stuff
Tipper

1999 - 2002 was the golden age for Nu skool Breaks imo

Then all of a sudden *pffffttt*

Im sure there is a resurgence of quality breaks happening again tho
Sick Rick and Tayo's sets at Glade gave me a bit of hope.
Tons of great stuff during that time.

Went downhill very quickly though
Smoke 'em if ya got em

Ah, if only breaks was still like that
Thats the kind of stuff I was playing years back, Dee Kline, old Social Circles stuff, early Bingo, Eskimo tunes etc. Proper breaks and basslines! Unfortunately it all went 1-note plodstep or 'funky breaks' (often lacking in any funk at all) and my interest waned :x

I'm still flying the flag for the darker side of breaks. Allways drop a few cheeky numbers into my sets.

Stuff on Cyberfunk used to be alright, who knows about Quest & IC3 'Floor Basher' !!

Also the DJ Hype remix of 'Pussy Track'! Allways goes down a storm, even today. I've played it so much the record is wearing thin!

yes you know reso!

breaks got me into djing when i was like 14, used to love that stuff, shame seeing the way its devolved tho. i've supported baobinga and rennie pilgrem this year, both producers i really used to rate, but they've both been pretty average.
