any dubstep vjs lurking?

Post by lilt » Wed Jul 30, 2008 4:49 am

im just getting into a bit of vjing etc. myself and was wondering if there is anybody else out there that does?

me personally, right now im just getting together some video clips to marry up with my dubstep etc. audio loops to play with in arkaos
so i can truly put together an audio visual live show...

so got any tips/tricks for vjing to dubstep?

one thing i have found is loops of people dancing that have had random snippets cut out of them look good to most dubstep due to the halfstep/break nature of the drums... but nearly all clips have to be slowed right down or it just looks too fast for the music!

I used to vj alot actually but I grew tired of doing visuals all night, for little pay for music I couldnt stand. So now I just want to do visuals for my own sets.

Just be prepared to pull out all your hair in frustration before you get anywhere with video/vjing :D Its worth it though!

maybe you could just chuck your mp3 player on whilst vjing to crap music (house or trance im guessing  ) and still get paid!!!

i was going to just add the audio loops to my avi's (which currently dont have sound) and when i play the video the audio will also play and i will just build up my audio loops (bass, synths, percussion, drums, pads etc.) by hitting the buttons in time (hopefully!)

pure data is good, i used to vj using it. That way i suppose you can tweak it to resond to the bass frequencies in dubstep.

but again you are usually the afterthought and have to rig up projectors yourself etc. I once did a gig and they put me at a table ON THE DANCEFLOOR! i had to gaffer tape my lappy to the table...

in this case, less isn't more :-)
let's say once a month/2 months
it's ha'rd to find promotors/organisers who have access to projectors, visual-monitors, the dvj-x's... all pricey stuff...
we chose a difficult hobby... :-)
