Production Bible v2 - Help needed!

As Futures Untold said in "The future of the Production forum" thread, we'll be working on a complete refont of the production bible and we'll take all the help we can get.

Here's a list of the different topics. Let us know which one(s) you're willing to help with.

* Free vst(i)s/AU linkage ** Futures Untold has done a great job for vsts so far, but there isn't much about specific Mac/Logic programs **

* Samples linkage ** Blizzard's on it, feel free to help **

* Sampling

* Drums: layering, EQing, processing, etc ** Johnny Beat's in charge of collecting infos from previous threads **

* Basslines: all kind of techniques you can think of for making basslines ** Futures Untold's on it, feel free to contribute **

* Synthesizing tips & tricks

* Arrangement tips & tricks ** slightlybored is on it but feel free to join in if you like **

* Mixdown

* Premastering/Mastering : everything that makes sound engineers's job easier comes here

* Music theory ** .klimaxx's on it**

* Rythm theory

* Digital audio theory (subtractive synthesizing, additive, FM, etc) ** neka's working on a FAQ for subtractive synth, Futures Untold for EQ & compression **

* Random tips & tricks

* Magazines/books/online resources/etc linkage

* Distributing your music: plate cutting places, etc

* Also if people are up to it, it could be nice to have Q&A threads about common sequencers & possibly synths. This would definitely prevent having repeated questions (think "How to automate LFO when synced in Massive").

im too rusty with most things to write any substantial amount of content but i offer my services to proof-read/structure to anybody that feels more comfortable just writing a bunch and leaving the rest to someone else =)

also, i still have my pack of ten dupbstep midi drum loops if you would like to chuck in the sticky somewhere?

if you guys need any graphic design help ie. photoshop etc, i'd be willing to help.

also, if you need to do a section about actual music theory or scales etc, i'm grade 8 piano so i could do that easily (eg. for people that are stuck for bassline and melody inspiration)

@ lilt & Legendary: please PM links to your sample packs to Futures Untold or myself. In order to keep it tidy, please sort samples in categories (drums, bass, fx, etc).

What about free AU linkage as well? Show some love to the Logic users in the forum...

For example, www.kvraudio.com has loads of both AUs and VSTs.

i'm curious what exactly you are looking for. are you looking to collect all the relevant threads to each topic in this forum? are you looking for completely original tutorials for the topics?

the way i see it, as someone else pointed out, dubstep doesn't really have that many exclusive production techniques...

so, i think it would be really nice and simple to separate all the important topics, with a brief introduction as to what it is (for real newbies) and why it is important. followed by links to some of the better tutorials already out there.

there are a ton of really great tutorials of different levels on all kinds of topics, from very broad stuff to really detailed and specific.
but, there is also a ton of shit out there.
having clearly organized links and references to just the well done and effective guides and tutorials would save everybody a lot of time.

basically just giving real clear links to the best online resources, and making it easy to find answers to the questions you've got.

i would suggest adding a "sampling" section, as opposed to just samples, adding a comprehensive bass section, and as well as music theory, how about some links and info on digital audio theory and midi? also rhythm theory? could be a sub category of music theory

just some of my thoughts, i'd be willing to collect some of my favorite links and tutorials to various topics, but i dont think i'd be much help writing out my own tutorials.

Sorry about my shit english... I meant that there are already threads here about music theory, some of them are great value. It might be good to search for and regroup them and then, if you feel like, improve them.

Agreed. Maybe the basslines part will be a bit specific but everything else is general computer music material.

Adding sampling, digital audio, midi & rythm theory sections to the list.
What about the comprehensive bass? How would it be different from the basslines section?

I don't know if my knowledge of AUs is that comprehensive. I still use Logic 7 on a 1.3.9 Mac... I've got the plugs I like and don't really try to get new ones.

Mate, if you have the time, knowledge and energy, your input will undoubtedly assist someone with less knowledge than you about AU plugins.

If your willing to search through previous threads and to hunt down good links etc, then it will be appreciated!

basically, i've been searching the the DSF past threads for hours, and nothing has ever been posted that is relevant, accurate and easy to understand all at once.

i'd be happy to write and possibly create some graphics to introduce musicians to music theory topics such as scales, chords, arpeggios, time signatures, melodies, diminished chords and anything else anyone wants me to do..

any suggestions as to what else i can write about?

I think that if you still have the energy to compile a new thread that sums up everything you could find/know about music theory, that would be a great service for everybody!

I was thinking of a method for doing this for everyone involved here.
Perhaps we should;

1. Compile our new threads individually based on all the info we can dig up using the search function.

2. Post them.

3. Wait a week for people to add extra input, ie, new links, thoughts, ideas, theories and techniques.

4. Recompile a new mega thread (production bible v2) based on all the fresh input from people.

5. Lock & sticky it so it remains as non confusing as possible. (We should write a big note saying if people have stuff to add, pm the orginal poster and they can update it).....

Waddaya reckon?
