I played at a week-long psytrance festival in Portugal the other week. It was insane.

i was there. It was amazing and I don't even like psytrance. Out to you on the groovy beach repping hot flush- enjoyed your set and had some amazing experiences there looking up at the stars while listening to some great music from likes of goth-trad, boxcutter etc. literally 10 metres away from the lake- such an amazing location and not a bad system to boot :). definately there for the next one.

I had a lot of discussions about psytrance with old friends and new friends whilst over there- I don't really like it as it seems quite throwaway to me- music made to take drugs to rather than music with substance and meaning (lazy samples saying "take a trip", "imagine your mind on drugs" etc. before another generic drop which just makes the whole experience worthless imo). However, there are a lot of tunes I did like the sound of at times and i met some people who were very heavily into the music and the dynamic of the scene- It was really interesting for me to get their perspective as they had such an intense interest which I could relate to in other forms of music.

Oh I just realised this is asking for recommendations. I can't actually remember anything off the top of my head (if you were there, you'd understand why  ), but I'll be back after consulting some people about certain things I did enjoy at Boom and before.

Psytrance is great
shame it gets frowned upon
all about the pulsing monotone psytrance being played in the middle of nature
tribal business
although alot of the scenes followers seem incredibly naive about tax.

Psy-trance is ok, first type of electronicy music I got into and the first rave (tribe of frog, Bristol) shame it can be so pretencious at times. They usually put on a good party though. No macho crap.

chek out nano records, theyve got loads of free tunes up on there website. Protoculture is sick, also panick is awsome, mood deluxe, laughing buddha. Just some artists i think are really amazing.

i hate psytrance generally :D the area where i live is swamped with repetitive shite...

but there's one artist whose choons i love, a Mexican producer called Twilight who's signed to Mushy Records amongst others. Absolutely amazing and innovative production in all of his tunes, check out Mexican Pipeline for one:

Yes I agree, however 'Jah' samples make music incredibly deep and insightful.

I also laughed rather a lot at the Tax comment, good work.

.
i´ve been thinking the same thing.
they definitely make you more holy.
also i´ve been thinking of taking all the jah sample abusing records and randomly adjust different JEHOVA,JAHWE,ALLAH,BUDDAH,SHIVA,HANUMAN etc. type samples on it. maybe leave a bleep for the atheist crew.
