Dynaudio?

Post by 11eight » Mon Sep 08, 2008 5:09 pm

alright - another monitor question...

has anyone used the Dynaudio BM6A - either the Mark 1 or 2?

im thinking of getting the Mk1's, but want to know if the Mk2's are any better?

the frequency range on the Mk1 is 41hz to 21khz - and the Mk2 is 40hz to 21khz

but the Mk1's are louder :?

any opinions?

Cheeers :)

Don't worry about the loudness.... they're all loud enough (unless you're working in a huge room).

I work with the BM5a and they're amazingly accurate. If you can find a good deal or afford to throw down the money on dynas, go for 'em, you won't ever regret it.

bm5a's are great, great speakers. almost too great--- everything sounds nice thru 'em!

i wouldn't worry about frequency response, especially 40 to 41 hz. that's about 1/3 of a semitone down at that range.

if they're in your budget, try 'em out vs. other monitors that cost a similar amount (mackie hr824, the higher-end events, the lower-end adams) and see what works for you.

cheers for the advice..
i was gonna go with some Adam A7's
but started looking through some second hand ads, and noticed the BM6A's at a price you cant really ignore...

gonna go have a listen tommorow and hopefully they will sound as good as the reviews have said..

Definately get the BM5a's, I used them for 3 years and the were perfect for mixing on in a small room. Get it sounding good on BM5a's and your mix WILL sound good!

I remember the first time I used them, I brought in a mix that I thought was quite clear and everything sounded really muddy to my suprise as you can imagine lol!

Dynaudio make excellent active monitors.

2 words tho:

- Only buy active, their passive speakers are coloured to fuck and are no use at all.

- Make sure that you spend as much time treating your acousitc space as you have researching the speakers you're about to put in it.

I have the 5a's and I love them to pieces. Dynaudio is a solid make.

Also, I honestly don't think 1Hz between 40 and 41 is going to make much difference in your mixes.

Another vote here for the 5A's. amazing monitors for the price and size.

be wary of buying second hand monitors, go with someone who knows what the 6As should sound like so you know the person selling hasn't mistreated them. I buy mostly only used studio gear except for the monitors... it's so easy to damage by simply mishandling.
