Melody making
I just wanted to know what kind of pattern do you use to make your melody making.
As in do the notes go D, E, F, G or E, F, D F.
do they usually decend or what?
Obviously with dubstep there is no pattern but what I'm asking is whats the common formular for a bassline or Melody
Thanks

i think you confused me whit the "black keys" thing. (confusion is a almost constant state of mine btw)
and hey, only playing black keys can be a start, as long as you dont stop there, thats how i first figured out there was something like scales when i started,
when i was like of 12-13 i asked myself why does always playing the black keys sound good, there must be something more to it? aha scales!
16 years later i still remember that moment well, it was a new world opening
I just fuck around on the keyboard while the beat is running until something sounds good.
I'm ignorant of scales
I'm slightly tone deaf as well. tits

uh if you did not know about Scales in "melody making" then you need to do much more research about making music before attempting or you will have a long road of "beginners troubles and tunes that dont sound right".
The more prepared you are when you get ready to swim, the better you will learn and become a swimmer.
got me?
And yeah the dubstep bible is a great tool, many resources on it.

music is almost entirely about relationships between frequencies. here is the wheel of fifths:

here is an example of taking a short, simple melody and mutating it into a really fun/interesting musical piece. this should sound extremely familiar to anyone who has been breathing for a while:
