Anyone gonna be investing in Star Wars:The Force Unleashed?
I played a demo of this a few weeks back, and I fucking loved it. Picking up TIE fighters and throwing them into groups of enemies is ACE. As is throwing around stormtroopers like ragdolls.
Thoughts?

I thought the demo was really boring. It shouldn't have been, but it was.kins83 wrote:Anyone gonna be investing in Star Wars:The Force Unleashed?

Scathing. I think it's as boring as you let it get, in that you can kill everybody the same way if you want to, or you can showboat a little bit and make it enjoyable. I take it you won't be investing then mate?datura wrote:I thought the demo was really boring. I think i'm as excited as you when it comes to this release, until i saw the gametrailers review :/
Dunno what to make of it. My geekheart still want lightsabry goodness, yet there seems to be quite a few things wrong with the final game.

It's a tricky one. It's always easy get caught up in the hype wagon with big games, not to mention big games realted to big franchises...cal wrote:Kinskins83 wrote:Scathing. Can't see that link at work, I'll have a look soon though! I read a review of it in Games TM, and I normally have good faith in their reviews. It scored 7/10, which was a bit disheartening. They did also say that it was a similar kind of game to Ninja Gaiden II, which in my book is quite some praise!!!

Gametrailers gave it a 6.9, so that's pretty close to the mark of that other site.
Main issues to them were:
- Force powers not actually that cool to use after a while (you won't be able to swing around all enemies from a certain point) and most of the time that syth smash thing with the electrified sabre just does the job nicely.
- A jedi is something that's mostly feared by troops, yet everybody seems to want a piece.
- Bigger fights (like the AT-ST in the demo) are done using that scripted buttonsequence thing all the time. So not much room for improvisation or ' a harder fight'.
- Re-use of uninspired repetitive scenery
- Quite a few bugs in the final retail version (Gametrailers mentionned the sound cutting out in the endgame movie)
- It's pretty short (7 to 8 hours)
You're probably right when they compare it to Ninja Gaiden 2, but it seems that there a lot less variety in TFU when it comes to combat. Ninja Gaiden sounds like a compliment to me aswell, fucking loved that game (at least the old Xbox one, sickeningly difficult aswell)
Still, pretty convinced i will pick it up when it's released ..

Yeah, that AT-ST fight in the demo pissed me off a bit. The first time I played it, I went straight to that QTE. The second time, I thought 'I'll try and defeat it a different way'. 10 minutes l of barrel chucking later, I realised that the QTE was the only way to deal with it.cal wrote:

The scenery issue was touched on in the review that I read. The first few levels are meant to be amazing looking, but apparently, the quality drops as the game progresses. Not good.
Bugs in any final version, particularly for a game with such expectation, is unforgiveable.
I suppose the short life span suggests that it is a DMC type game, playing through a number of times. Still though, that too is a little disappointing.
Hmmmm.....I'm not sure what to do now....maybe worth a hire?

It was fun for a the majority of the demo but i could see it losing it's appeal within about half an hour of play. combining the force powers and using the force push on hanger doors was cool at first but light sabre combat was dull and wooden and force lift targeting was frutrating to say the least, and as the force lift is the best thing on offer that's a bit of a fail really.
here is the issue: every game has a grace period where it can blow you away with some kind of new graphics/physics engine but once that wears off and you adjust to the visuals (ie. they become the norm) you're left with nothing but gameplay, and if that isnt up to scratch then the game is poor, pure and simple. a perfect example of this would be assassins creed (although people who bought it still often live in denial and tell you that it's amazing). so in summary, gameplay > sandboxes/ragdolls/shiny metallic looking things/fire effects/etc.

Second Sight did telekenesis etc a lot better imho (and 4 years ago). If this game came out 3/4 years ago I would probably have enjoyed it a lot more, but the open nature of the demo level and the fact that you never seemed under any threat just made it boring to me.kins83 wrote:Scathing. Wait for things like Little Big Planet that are truly next gen and boycott this kind of thing that they are trying to flog off the star wars name when it's sub standard. Hopefully Fracture is a lot better.
