Ballers Social Club brings you Brooklyns finest in the form of Pursuit Grooves and Parisian soul child Onra fresh from the 'Red Bull Music Academy 2008' on October 25th. These two will be showing of their newly learned musical techniques and exclusive collaborations live on the Baller$ stage.
Pursuit Grooves is a budding female Hip - Hop producer from New York. Refusing to be defined or labeled, she graciously accepts all of her influences to create something that is distinctly her own whilst owing much to the past. Inspiration includes Soul and Funk artists (Cameo, Sade, Loose Ends), Electronica gurus (Bjork, Massive Attack, Portishead) and Hip Hop producers (DJ Premier, Pete Rock, Jay Dee).
Joining the Brooklyn firecracker is super smooth soul brother Onra. Onra is the man behind the sonically sweet Vietnamese concept album 'Chinoseries', taking 30 records home with him after a visit to the land of his grandparents, he compounded a heart-felt musical recital of his time in the still recovering nation. He has also released a collaborative album on the emphatic Japanese imprint 'Circulations' titled 'The Big Payback', where he joins forces with Byron, a talented producer and piano / synth player. His most recent releases are the 'Tribute' EP, where he collaborates with Quetzal to become The Big Payback on this 'Favourite Recordings' release and joins the prestigious 7x7 'Beatstrumental' series on All City Records with the disco - driven 'My Comet'.
Being two of 60 participants out of 2300 applicants allowed to take part in 2008 'Red Bull Music Academy' speaks volumes of their future credentials. The prestigious event has played tutor to many a friend and familiar name including Flying Lotus, Hudson Mohawke, Samiyam, Muhsinah, Mweslee and Mike Slott. They will be riding high from there uber creative week of musical ingenuity and will have fresh collaborations to be showcased for the first time ever at the show.
This Lucky Music Party is held in The Ivy's upstair bar on North St.
