(mix) Kuma: Live At Soundwave: 7/8/06

Anyone downloading this expecting a straight dubstep mix best cancel that d/l as this isn't really it. Instead, it's more of a dubscursion, a mash up of sounds and samples and experiments that happen to have a load of dubstep tunes mixed in.

Mixed in Ableton Live because I didn't want to drag vinyl into a campground in the middle of nowhere for three days in the baking sun, I took a few liberties and dubbed the crap out of some things, chopped a few tunes, ran some through the f/x and generally had a damn good time sitting in the chill out tent/teepee.

There's a not so sharp mix or two but nothing horribly distracting, all things I put off on not having wrapped my head around mixing in Live well enoungh quite yet. But whatever, with 68 mins of a two hour set here, this was more about looking at the ocean and playing good tunes than anything else. I'm quite fond it it, so I figured I'd share it with y'all.

word.

yeah, the more i work with DJing in live, the more i can see it becoming a viable option for those gigs where vinyl may not be an option (crossing the U.S., border, the middle of the desert, etc).

I've been using it for a house sets too and it's alot of fun once you get everything locked down. sorting the audio files are a bitch but otherwise...it's not bad. i'm intriged to see what live 6 has in store...

great, i'd love to hear this.
the idea of the mashing bits of music from every direction into an overal music style is the shit!
i've done it once with pre 1980 music and Beat Repeat mashed DNB drums, and it was one big fun.

working on the same thing, but now the overall style would be dubstep.
big up ableton live!

it's about setting the warp markers on each tune with ableto, that takes some time to master and then you have to go through and do that to lord knows how many tunes..time is unfortunately something I didn't have so yeah, it's a little rough in patches, but as i said, t'was an experiment..

now the all vinyl and cd mix i'm putting together, that's another story..
