“The sound is rooted in dark experiments with the 2-Step Garage template devised by pioneers El-B and Zed Bias..”

Zed Bias gained him a serious underground following around the time of UK Garage’s first emergence with his remixes of DJ Zinc’s ‘138 Trek’ and ‘Super Sharp Shooter’, his widely appreciated ‘Sound of the Pirates’ mix CD was an education for many outside the London underground. The single ‘Neighborhood’ featuring MC Rumpus addressed the day to day reality of living in an urban community and tipped into the overground going on to become a top 30 chart hit the UK.

After these successes Zed went on to pioneer the sound that came to known as Breakstep. His huge remix of DJ Zinc’s ‘Heavyweight’ was the first release on his label Sidestepper and ‘Jigga Up’ (Ring The Alarm) featuring MC Juiceman also released on Sidestepper also achieved anthem status, this cemented his reputation as an originator in a sea of imitators. Zed went on to maintain his profile at the forefront of the UK underground holding a residency alongside fellow pioneers Hatcha, Youngsta, Kode9 and Oris Jay at Ammunition’s seminal club Forward>> a name synonymous with Dubstep, it was then in its carnation as ‘The Sunday Sessions’ at London’s Velvet Rooms before the term Dubstep had even been coined.

Forthcoming from Zed Bias there are Dubstep-focused releases on original Dubstep label Big Apple, the Australian based Aquatic Lab as well as Zed’s own Sidestepper Recordings. Zed’s unreleased Dubstep productions are currently getting big support from scene heavyweights N-Type, Benga, Skream, Hatcha and Kode9.
Zed Bias wrote:“Gonna be a very exciting year for me and the peak of the excitement will be around the time I’m on tour… with the Aquatic Lab release, and the Big Apple EP also dropping..”

Also a word about support DJ Dubhead celebrating 25 years behind the decks tomorrow night..

(from Mukuna.co.nz)

Dubhead knows so much about NZ reggae he should write a damn book. Oh, wait, he is. He's been DJing up and down the country since 1983, sharing bills with the Mad Professor, African Head Charge, Ben Harper, Rockers Hi-Fi, Dry & Heavy, Ty, Burning Spear, and Toots & The Maytals, to name but a few. From 2000 to 2004 he was Programme Director at 95bFM, where he now hosts The Rhythm Selection on Mondays from 9 to 11pm. He has won awards for his compilation CDs, produces original music as The Sound Foundation (Kog Transmissions), and is the reggae buyer for Beat Merchants record shop.
