it is quite hard to keep a crowd hyped if youre playing like coki one minute and martyn the next. although i love both of their music i dont think i cd pull it off.

I lose interest if a DJ sticks to a sub-genre too strictly. IMO, the whole point of a DJ set is to take the listeners/crowd on a journey, and some of the most interesting sets I have ever heard tend to be those that have a good variety of tunes and vibes.
All things must pass....

if you owned/bought a broader selection of records, they would. ;)

i dunno man i gotta disagree.

i think you def need some structure to your sets and you gotta have a 'base' sound. i wouldn't be cutting between the two sounds every tune its kinda more like a long breakdown before the next one drops.

you gotta pick the right tunes though for sure. you couldn't go from a really dubby musical tune into 'down' kinda thing but martyn is def the kind of stuff that works for me.

Selection is part of the art - gotta think a few tunes ahead, lay a path/join the dots!

problem is im on a limited budget and never know what to die - so should i focus on one style or carry on buying all styles just the tracks i like?
If you have a limited budget - buy the tunes you will also like in a year from now

Keep a good variety of genres I say.

Take for example Hijak and his jungle.
