This.

I am going to be the first to moan, I am sure there are others too who have something to get off their chest.

I think it was a rather selfish move to be honest. A few users over at GetDarker were worrying and trying to contacti people about a release of theirs.

Taking away peoples abilities to read their own PM's - what if a DJ lost a booking due to this? Wascal just posted his competition and boosh, site goes off - nice way to break it.

You practically crippled the whole community by taking it offline. If it was for over use of bandwith or technical upgrades then sure - thats a valid reason. But you don't need to pause 20,000 people's routines and daily activities in order to judge your own.

Letting people filter out across many other websites obviously shows there is alot of resources out there that will happily cater for this place if it ever shut down for good.

No warning, no subtle message. Nothing. I think the idea of closing it was good - just that fact you went about the wrong way of doing it.

Obviously generated a lot of hype and hysteria but also a lot of confusion. Maybe you will reflect on this mistake of yours and never do it again.

But on a positive note, happy birthday.

^^ Would it have had the same impact if they'd told us though? I don't think there is any easy way they could have done it really. If they'd given us warning then people would have kicked off regardless. It may have even caused more problems.

Agree with some of this. Disagree with some of this.

Welcome back DSF.

Well it would have given people a chance to get the data they needed from the forum in order to continue their business instead of relying so heavily on the private messaging system here.

I think there is a little something we all could have learned from this actually.

Ashley was perhaps also one of the first to take advantage of the downtime ;) fair play to him, but the biggest lesson for people is not to rely on PM's of a forum!!!!

oh i agree - pm's shouldnt be relied upon at all. but the point is people do and there are possibly more professional ways to go about trying to change that, review that and/or "teach a lesson" - and who's position is it to teach a lesson? just a thought.

anyway good to have dsf back and happy birthday :)

It's nobody's position to teach a lesson - It's the position of users who reply on PM's too much to change a bad habit.
