Distortion!

Post by grix » Wed Oct 08, 2008 8:45 pm

Hi people,
Im looking for a decent new distortion plug-in, just wondering what you lot use or would recommend. At the moment all i really use is Izotope Trash. Its pretty good actually. I think its attempting to recreate the sound of real amplifiers but you can get some really nice sounds when applying it to drums, especially the hats.

Any recommendations on some decent distortion plug-ins would be great.

Peace.

And different disto for the SAME jobs innit. Can't have enough dis plugins as most of them offer something different. I always reach for the greasetube because it just sounds good but maybe too much for some jobs. The camel stuff is great. If you are looking for something new, this one was recently added to my computer Image

Let's start with the freebies ---> http://www.gersic.com/plugins/index.php?daCat=7 (Your a mong if you don't find something useful here :x)

Also check this bad boy ----> http://www.rhythminmind.net/presetblog/ ... mbd-1k.dll It's free, it's multiband, and it rocks!

There are some free distortion plugins in this pack ---> http://www.mediafire.com/?tzoby9j1msl 8)

Payware:

Guitar rig is good, but if you upgrade to v4 (if it is released), any tunes relying on v3 will not make use of v4 in v3's place. That was my experience at least between v1 and v2, which is shit because I don't want every version of a plugin installed on my computer just for compatibilities sake..........!

Also, the Ohmforce distortion plugins are worth checking out ---> Frohmage, Predatohm & Ohmicide.

Audio Damage Kombinat looks sick IMO ;)

You will find more distortion plugins by searching here ---> http://www.kvraudio.com/get

sometimes a chain of quite a few distortion plugs with some eq'ing in between can be nice. just make each one more subtle /specific depending on how many you add.

Ohmforce's Predatohm is really great. 4-band dist unit where you can choose the type , volume, comp and color of dist per band.
My Sound [-o-] Yes, it's THAT good. So click, b-tard.

Personally I like overdriving the vintage warmer or over compressing any of the PSP mix pack
but hardware provides the best sounding distortion imo

Ohmicide is my fav, but Camel crusher is a handy tool as well. Used Ni Guitar rig 2 on some drum parts to level and bring out sounds a bit more.

I've been using kombinant for a few weeks now and am absolutely in love with it. Especially good for bass sounds if you use it as a send. Just turn off the low frequency band and mess with the mid and high separately. The filter and compressor on it are really nice too.
