I remember when I started out I would never save lol I would work on a tune for 8 hours and not save it. Of course I have lost a few projects and learned the lesson. Still I don't usually save a lot until I am really happy with what I am doing. Then I'm saving every couple minutes.

 i'm happy just saving every so often during a session (even though i didnt do so on this rare occasion)

on another note i'm personally against having 'clocks' running in the background on my computer, same applys to timed screen savers and other 'auto' functions, especially when using CPU heavy applications and and CPU heavy 'soft' synthesizers.

i dunno about music software but some video editing programs allow u to autosave every...5, 10...mins...etc...

check the preferences. also...in 3d software there is a back up feature that allows u to go back to where you were if the program crashed.

check that as well....auto back and auto save.

most will probably have a save to new file setting somewhere so it just adds a prefix at the end.
If it doesn't then :-/

dunno the truth in this but i got told by knowledgeable producer that you souldnt keep saving over the same file as it slowly corrupts it, you should do a save as. does anyones project open up differently to when they last saved and closed? on logic. one project came up totally jumpled + i cant be bothered to sort.
