i have to address the common sarcastic retort of "internets. serious business." or "it's just the internet, get over it" when anyone takes issue with hurtful or mean or offensive or truly foul, fucked up shit that people say online.

the one thing that people miss during discussions (say, about sexism) on the internet, is that the attitudes presented are representative of a larger reality outside of the internet.

the internet is not some magical place where nothing can affect you because it is confined to itself. it is actual people ON the internet, so attempting to create some false dichotomy between "real life" and "internet" doesn't wash.

there are real people saying the nastiest shit on here, and there are real people feeling the kick in the gut from it too. and the shittiest shit gets said outside of this place too, and the kick in the gut feels much the same.
Here, have a free tune:

Why did the saddest things thread get locked?

A child dressed as a lobster in a saucepan offend someone? A dog mourning for its loved one offended someone?

What the fucking christ...I thought this was supposed to be NSFW but by the looks of things its not safe for depressed stnuc.

If you're so unhappy with the way things are run here, why do you keep coming back with new aliases?

Better than anything you have ever achieved.

I don't need to justify myself to you.

You know nothing about me, so that is a rather dumb thing to say.

You are right, you don't need to justify yourself to me, but surely after being banned from a forum it is rather stupid (or incredibly arrogant) to pop up the day after with a new alias pretty much identical to the previous one and moaning about the way the place is run?

[22:21:12] <Ashley> Shit Jay, I really loved that place... don't know what I am going to do now that I am banned :(
