im open... could be a new vst with weird effects/sounds or maybe some hardware that does something really crazy? i dno

maybe something to push my production into live performance without just pressing play?

Check out the noise removal plugin in audacity.

also check out some spectrogram programs. fl has one built in called beepmap which is pretty good. there are also a few free standalone ones. The vOICe, IMO, makes the best spectrograms but has a really annoying interface.

I got criterias when i pick up gear: to find something that fits my needs exactly (this can be money consuming) or i buy strange, but cheap gear, and see if i can use it in any interesting way. Trial and error really. But that is very time consuming.

things that are designed to do something really crazy are usually really limited and only do one thing, and it'll always sound like you are using that thing... which to me is useless.

i'd recommend really getting to know your basic synthesis and sampling tools inside and out. if you are using ableton, and are looking for something to freshen your mind up a little bit, i just started using these videos and can recommend them.

I just discovered the Element of Surprise synth; gotta say this thing is a lot of fun for when you just wanna make a tune and not make sounds so much. Almost every single sound it's come up with so far has been very, very usable... my only complaint is that I can't save sounds I like as patches!

Seriously though, anyone looking for a fun, free, good-sounding little plug to kickstart song inspiration... this is a good one. The other synths on the Ugo site are pretty cool too.

oh and I'm listening to some demos of that galaxy synth, wooo boi! The filter on there sounds f'ing awesome, as good as sylenth's, imo, which is maybe the best sounding vst filter ever?
