Hi,

Im kind of new to dubstep, ive only really been listening to it for about a month or two but have been blown away by it. In a strange way its kind of made me realise there is more to life than blowing £1000's on old vw's. So much so that i want to start mixing it for my self really.

Im really after advice on what would be a good setup mixxer and deck wise for some one on a bit of a budget.

And if there are any tutorials for learning to mix dubstep out there?

if ur on a budget.... dl virtual dj or something just to practice untill u can practice with decks or cdjs>

For a budget or a new way, Install Ableton or Traktor.

For vinyl, Technics turntables PERIOD.
Mixer should be either a Vestax, Pioneer, Xone or Rane. I use a Rane and would never recommend anything else.

cheers for that, why are the technics decks so much better than anything else.

do you think it would be worth trying to get some 2nd hand?

if ur a begginer then just go onto ebay, look for a set of decks, direct drive preferrably. i started on numark tt1650's n they were real helpful for a new dj.

u can usually get them proper cheap for about 70 quid on ebay, with mixer etc etc

just get a new set of Tech's and a dank mixer. never buy decks used!!

example: friend of mine bought a pair off of ebay a while back, when he got em, the arm was bent on one and the platter was warped on the other and the seller just vanished. so getting his money back just wasn't happening.

only thing good that came from that purchase was we learned how to take apart and rebuild em.

cheers for the advice i was loking to get that numark battle pack 2 with the direct drive decks.

I would like technics as you dont hear a bad word about them, but just incase i utterly suck dont wanna put to much wedge into it.

does any one know if the mixer that comes with the battle pack will be ok to start with?

and also what do i need in order to record a mix from the decks on to my pc -- so i can listen back or burn it to cd for the car etc..? obiousy a lead of some kind but which one and how?

download audacity, put in the cable and the mix is recording that's easy.
but i asure u listening to your first mixe is not laways so muc fun:P

THE Bible of DJing. Will tell you pretty much everything you need to know.

As to mixing specifically for dubstep: buy tunes you like, have fun on your decks and you will end up developing your own style which may change a little depending on your mood.

Listening to other DJs sets and seeing how they mix tunes in/out and structure a set (i.e. playing which tune at which time) will give you some ideas. off the top of my head I'd say try listening to youngsta and n-type's mixes for some ideas.

i got a pair of gemini sa-600 mkIIs 5 yrs ago and still use them altho wud kill for a brand new pair of technics/equivalent top end turntables.

don't think they sell my decks any more but they were around £350 including a mixer. my mate got the equivalent numark package which was much worse, although i'm not sure about the latest decks. i would recommend www.whybuynew.co.uk for some ridiculously cheap deals.
