Going to glasgow on Nov 18th.. whats the deal??

I don't know how many peaople from glasgow post on here.. It's been a while since I have posted here anyways. To get to the point, I could really use some ideas as to things to see, places in town to go to for good ale and stuff like that. I wouldn't object to meeting up with someone at a pub or something for a drink or what not.

Im not really too sure what to expect when I get there. im gonna take a look through the events section and look elsewhere online of course, but for real though... any kinda little hole in the wall places to score good music or food/drink.. Fill me in.

it's cool city bit ruff as the glswigiean love to booze and they bit out of control i saw three muggins in 40 mins, but really friendly otherwise...cold and dark weather wise but you know the worst is the accent you think they speak backwards.....cant really help as i did live in edinburgh and that is the middleclass spot as they say glasgow is the workin class...music scene is beter in glasgow thats for sure...

One of the reasons why I picked Glasgow was because it was more working class. I keep hearing about the cold and the rain.. Thats fine with me, it will be cold and rainy (maybe even snow by then) here whereI live too.

If you're interested in more than just Dubstep I'd check out the events section of http://www.miscreat.com/forums/index.php which is a Glasgow forum for all things club.
18th November is a Tuesday though, which limits your options, how long are you there for?

My girlfriend was there for a year, and when I was up visiting her we were mainly in the west end, which seems to be the cultural / studenty area. We were particularly down with
* the 78 - nice bar, good bottled ales (I mean really good, Black Isle shizzle) had Mungos doing a Dub and Grub night when we were there - dunno if that's still going on
* The Bon Accord - nice real ale boozer
* Chai-Ovna - hippified tea house with cobbled together furniture, 15000 different sorts of tea, occasional music, nice food, chilled vibes
* bare cheap whisky
* Mother India's Cafe - best curry I'd ever had until I discovered Rasa
* Volcanic Tongue records - I never actually bought anything there because I was poor and it was all severely out there stuff. But it's an amazing place just to browse.

well mate i live on the west coast, bout 45 minutes from glasgow. If your there on a tuesday your not really going to see much - go down ashton lane for a few pints cos theyve normally got some live music playing.

otherwise just kick about the city centre and youll get flyers for student nights which are cheap as fuck - the musics normally pretty shite, cheesey dance and rnb mainly but you might get lucky and find somewhere playing a bit of banging electro.

Dub n Grub is on every thurday where you get cheap food and expensive booze (but if you like red stripe your fine) free entry and is from 7-12

if your there on the 28th of nov Mala will be in town and Silkie on the 26th (i think?) from 12 and close to dub n grub

This dub and grub thing sounds right up my alley.. I think I will check out silkie and mala while im there, it will be a good end to my stay in Glasgow.

There's quite a few dubstep heads in glasgow, check the events section if you haven't already. How long you going to be about?

Excellent, your just in time to catch the next fortified on the 21st.

As for recommendations, its rub a dub for records, where you can find out what else is going on club wise, or avalanche for second hand stuff. Theres not much else worth mentioning on that front though, Mono is ok I guess.

The variety on Sauchihall street is a good boozer, as is Nice and Sleazy's a few doors down, I'm quite fond of the Courtyard on west nile street too. CCA cafe bar has a good programme of DJs this month too.

For food you have to try where the monkey sleeps near blythswood square for some of the most amazing sandwiches known to man, and the best oreo milk shakes, smoothies etc. The only thing wrong with it is it only opens at daytime.
Mother Indias cafe, Shish Mahal on park road and Banana Leaf near Kelvin Hall are all really good. If you like Sushi then the best Japanese is Nanakusa on Sauchihall St, for Chinese/asian fusion try Mao's in Merchant City. Sarti's is a brilliant italian diner that serves the best coffee.

You should also visit the necropolis for a bit of Glasgow history, and the Barras at the weekend is a must. If you wanna hang out at all just gimme a PM, I'm more than happy to show you the sights

Oh aye if you find your self hankering for some mexican, then it has to be salsa on the south side of the clyde, nowhere else compares. If you wanna cook your own then get down to Lupe Pinto's on Great Western road.

Bier Hall Republic just next to Borders for a pizza and a few beers - not the cheapest but the pizzas are sick and theyve got a good variety of booze - good place to start an all day sesh.

You still only there for the one day?

Paolo: I have checked the events section and am planning on going to 2 events. I will be there from the 18th to the 29th of november.

Jakieboi: I will have to see whats up with this Beir Hall Republic you speak of. I am a sucker for good pie. And no, I am actually gonna be there for 11 days, probably should have mentioned that earlier.
