Is Reason actually a decent program to use?

I like Reason, the combinator is amazing, the rack and everything like that is amazing even the samples you get free with it....
I just have beef with the seqencer, deffo a software to rewire imo

and btw, Ive heard WONDERS coming out of virtual synths in a studio where they got pro PreAmps and analog summing devices. They do add the magic but anyway its all about sound design, not using presets, tweaking every knob and so and so and so etcetcetc

um, Ambient Electronica, D'nB or Hip Hop themed refills would sound ideally suited to dubstep IMO, I know skream used to use FL, no Idea if he still uses it or whatever.Dub Fiend wrote:Reason is nice for getting out little ideas too I guess... but yeah, I do use my own samples in Reason for the drums and such, but there are only so many times you can use the same 4 bass drum samples ¬_¬ lol...
I do use a LOT of my own refills, I swear I have 40-50 or so, but most of them are either Ambient Electronica, D'nB or Hip Hop themed refills so a lot of the stuff in them can't really help me...
And yeah they didI heard they were paid to do it though... And I also heard Skream just use Live and Reason as well, is that true?
to answer the original question, reasons fine, its not what you use its how you use, I personaly like the synths and samples but hate the sequencer, but Id be be surprised if there arent any signed tunes made wholly in reason.
Could Some one RE-Up this Please.Brucifer wrote:Sidechaining is very simple in Reason and has been for ages.Kastor wrote:Sidechaining (which is extremely easily in Reason 4) for the win ...Osk wrote:It can be really hard to get those deep chords (which sound crap with all the low end rolled off) to sit with those kicks and the subs that characterise their tunes.
Two things that bother me with Reason:
1) not able to work with audio files
2) no timestretching in the sequencer (but a quick rewire to Live solves that)
Everything else works flawless. Reason does not eat up your CPU for breakfast like other programs do and never, ever (at least with me) crashes.
As for timestetching, it is possible. Here is a combi I made, with help of youtube plus some other alterations I did. This combi was made in 3, but should work in 4 aswell.
Basically, it is a glitch effect with motion. You can change length of sample, glitch speed, pitch and other stuff. Try altering the dials on the delay aswell.
Try automating the combi dial aswell in the sequencer. You can play sample backward doing that, or skip section, loads of weird stuff.
Leave a comment if you try it, I could do with some more ideas for it.![]()

I think Liam wrote it in reason but as far as I know he used a full studio to actually produce the final tracks.£10 Bag wrote: someone correct me if i'm wrong, but didn't the prodigy make a whole album in reason?

I would only consider getting reason as an extra tool to rewire into an actual good sequencer like logic.

nn-xt is brilliant IMO. multiple outs, root note detection( seems faily accurate)and its really fucking easy 2 use. the filters good use some improvement but they get the job done, and you cant automate any parameters for your zones( i hope in future releases they will they change this). i recommend to anyone programing beaks in the redrum to try out the nn-xt. i heart the nn-xt

^^^ ahahah dude dubstep is as simple or as complex as you make it...
we could turn this into the 'what makes a dubstep track - dubstep' thread lol
Reason seems great but I agree with a lot of others that the sequencer is weak! So its basically a no go for any logic or cubase users
good call on the gloryfied VST lol
BUT there is 1 thing reason does which I have NEVER seen anywhere else and that is -
Quantization via PERCENTAGE!!!!
now that is rockin for us soulful jazzy skip beat freaks
