Laptop through mixer noise

Post by rob_rd » Tue Nov 18, 2008 6:54 pm

I'm running my laptop through my mixer and into some active speakers to save the hassle of changing wires about all the time. Works nicely apart from when i'm charging up the laptop. This sends a spike through the speakers and causes background noise.

Anyone had this problem and know a way of fixing it?

Cheers.

Ground loop.

Solutions;

Unplug laptop :6:

best solution - use balanced cables for everything (assuming you have balanced connections on the mixer, but being a DJ mxer it is probably RCAs..?)

or - Buy DI box/es with ground lift.
