i use both
granted i have my share of warezed sample cds since some of em cost so goddamn much, but my motto is if i use any of em a shitload and it's not like an unreasonable amount i'll try to buy it eventually

I bought some orchestra strings form East / West years ago

they were great for hiphop

I've since lost the CD

I don't pay for a sample pack.

I just sample from anything, everywhere, at any time.

I personally don't sample from generes that I'm producing (drum & bass, dubstep, minimal techno). That's my personal preference, everything else is fair game though.

when first starting i'd stick to free samplepacks off sites like here, the grid etc
sample cds can be a bit pricey, especially when you could use that money on plugins, hardware, monitors etc

what people make songs frome sample??????

mate if you want to be origanal make you own shit. drum samples are good but make your own loops. making good sounds takes a long time to get good at but its not hard at all. also try not to use presets at all.

I have to disagree. The famous saying goes... "you can't pollish a turd" so a shit sample will sound shit no matter how much you process it. On the flip if you start with a good quality sample and process it well, it will sound bloody amazing! Sampling from Vinyl usually give a nice warm sound with a good bottom end. point is tho most people cant afford expensive drum machines like roland 909 or 808 so a good drum sample library is essential in my opinion and if you are layering, processing, EQing etc then its not in anyway selling out or being less creative in my opinion.

being "original" has more to do than making your own loops and shit. I'm not trying to start anything, but if you think that you will be more original if you don't use samples, then you are dead wrong my friend.
