"the place to be" of dubstep?

Post by tone.def » Wed Aug 30, 2006 3:14 pm

anybody remember "the place to be?" old school d&b heads should know. website from the late 90s where streaming clips of the hottest dubs were laboriously searched out and posted for all the peons to hear. you could hear rare optical shit months or years before release (or in many cases never released).

anyway, point being, is there a website like this for "dubstep?" i hear everybody talking about supposedly hot tunes like "bury the bwoy" and shit, but i've never heard these tunes and have few ways of hearing them since i'm i the US and can't go down to DMZ or FWD. i want to hear these tunes everybody is raving about. when blackdown gives his top summer tunes, i want to be able to hear them somewhere.

www.barefiles.com. You'll have to do your own digging to find out which tunes are which, as not many track titles are announced on the radio though, but you get more, and better quality audio than you did on place to be. To be honest, I think that's cooler than just having a website where you can sift through all the latest dubs - that kind of takes the mystery element out of it.

Place to be was a cool place though.

neurofunk.com right? that was my jump off back in the day. didn't dubplate.net have a similar focus/set up a few years ago?

it was dubplate.net

now its a combo of dubplate and barefiles

still looking for a copy of this trace/ed rush set they used to have on the front page of place_to_be. i still remember this 1st track on there, crazy time signatures, and trace flexing all sorts of weirdness...
