Motu makes a really good product, as mentioned above you really can not go wrong with an ultralite.

I am waiting on the new focusrite saphire 40 pro to be released in january. I think it is retailing for about 300 GBP.

Here is the link: http://www.focusrite.com/products/saffi ... re_pro_40/

All i would recommend is make sure it is an external soundcard, and hopefully one that will power off of firewire.

wouldn't go firewire nowadays soon to die out since mac stopped supporting it.

I bought a freman conditioner to get clean power from. I was told if you run it off firewire power or a fluctuating power souce you will have a drop in sensitivity while recording and playback volume at low levels will have a give or take of about 6 db.

thought that motu was usb for a second,

probably worth it if your going to buy a motu or similar high end model, but otherwise firewire is probably an iffy thing to be investing in

do they do a usb model similar to that do you know?

I have no clue. I don't think I'll be worrying too much about the lack of USB, I don't plan on getting a mac anytime soon. Steve Jobs is a jackass for killing firewire on the new macbook.

should of only killed it when usb 3 was released, but then the uptake of usb 3 laptops probably would be affected, business ruins good things.

firewire is faster than usb 2.0, so unless you're rocking usb 3.0 (which your not), firewire is better. Mac Pro's still have firewire, but Macbook Pro's don't, which is fucking stupid. USB 3.0 isn't out and some hi end video cameras are firewire only. Plus external hard drives run better on firewire. That was a dumb move on apple's part. Replace it with USB 3.0, fine. But, leave it off for a slower port? I don't get it. Luckily a macbook pro isn't in my future. Or is that unlicky? Either way, I have an audio fire2 and I like it. $199.99. Pc or Mac.

Word. I didn't even know that MAC was killing firewire on the Pro (thanks for correcting me). Then I went and did some research on Mr. Job's choice and read some posts and I don't think I will be affected any time soon. (I hope) And if the time comes, where maybe they do kill it off, I'll deal with it then, but yea.... from the posts I was reading, most all good audio and video products are still running firewire and in some cases judging by tests, firewire will still be faster than USB 3.0 depending on variables.
