reggae-dubstep recommendations??

Post by hungdangnguyen23 » Wed Dec 24, 2008 12:12 am

Hi, I'm new here so apologies in advance if this question has already been asked (the search function didn't help me)...

I'm looking for dubstep tracks that sound more like reggae/dub/roots from the 70's (ie. King Tubby, Augustus Pablo, etc), can anyone suggest any artists/track titles?

Here are some examples of the sound I'm looking for (not really dancefloor smashers, but rather a dubby/chilled out/smoked out vibe):

Blasta - Murder Skank Pt 2
Brown & Gammon - Ganja Smuggling
Digital Mystikz - Earth A Run Red
Hijak - Babylon Timewarp Root Dedication Mix
Kromestar - Budwise, Here We Come, Hungry Dub, Take It Easy, Kalawanji, Quicktime
Matty G - One Step, War
The Others - Africa, Light Up Your Spliff
Rusko - Jahova, SNES Dub, Tru Powwa
Sarantis - Meditation
Skream - Dutch Flowers Rusko Remix, Pass The Red Stripe
Synkro - King of Kings
Shackleton - I Am Animal, Hypno Angel, Blood On My Hands

Peverlist - gather
cyrus - white sand
quest - daddy cool/hard food/eden
silkie - poltergeist/hooby
Lots of stuff by mala and coki
l wiz - mary jane

There is a lot really, i just cant think of too many on the top of my head..check out rhythm and sound if you havent already for the definition of "smoked out".

thanks quidz

anyone else wanna chime in on this topic?

i'm looking for dubstep that i can mix into a traditional roots/dub set (most late 60's early 70's stuff), so the tunes should have a more "traditional" bass rather than the squelchy/synthy bass in the "harder" dubstep tunes being played out right now in the clubs

Some SIIIICK white labels floating around right now- "Dreamin" and "Jacqueline" are two of my faves at the moment. Also the War white with "Polizia" and "Dreadlock" -- largin up Antiserum, Noah D and Rommate!
