Portable Sampler?

Hey guys i need your advice. So the thing is i need some portable sampler to hang around with, recording noises, making simple doodle stuff, some sort of music "notebook". I'm not very good at hardware , so far i'm thinking about something like Korg Kaossilator, Roland 404, or even Korg Kaoss Pad. In particular it must be something like this:

The main thing IMO is that it can be run off batteries. This means you could, in theory, take one with a set of headphones and a minidisc recorder and just go and sit somewhere, like a park or the back of a bus, and just piss about with making noises & whatnot and recording, getting different sounds from the different locations you find yourself in.

Any info/ideas will do.

yeah, i'm in process but still..i guess some advice from the users of thous gadgets will be helpful.
I mean, i'm more up to some recording sample/noises stuff, mixin em up than to some beats/drum stuff. So in the first place i liked this kaoss pad thing.
I mean i'm looking for some more touchable/real equivalent to software like fl studio for example, you know, something to get this flow feeling of making music, not the constant clicking on the mouse.
as sayed i'm new in all this so any theoretical advice will be great.

something handheld like the zoom or maudio microtrack-- lot less to carry and think about. the m-audio actually sounds really good as well.

I second the Akai MPC500 Portable, I'm probably going for one of those too.

I've got the 404 and love it. Wander round the house recording this and that and some of the functions and effects can be v. inspiring to take the sample one step further.
Very bulky to go around doing field recordings though, so if I was into that I'd go for something like this: http://www.zoom.co.jp/english/products/h4/

Kaossilator is a synthesizer, not a sampler. Kaoss pads are more realtime multi effects than samplers.

Sp 404 has it's own internal microphone, sampler and a sequencer all in one nice package. I've heard the batteries last forever.

I have Akai's mpc 500. I love that little machine. It works with batteries too and it's refreshing to take it with me to park in summer or make drums while sitting in train. 500 doesn't have an internal microphone tho,

I suppose microtrack, zoom recorders and all those other hand held recorders will beat akai and roland anytime in portability and sound quality. On the other hand they are what they are: recorders. There's no sequencing or sampling with these.
