rhythm incursions have just dropped their best of 08.. well worth a look.. i quote

"Another thing reflected in the mix is the return of the producer to the front in certain corners of the hip hop world (see explosion of interest around Flying Lotus for proof of that) and how this return has been distinctively led by a more awkward and experimental approach to instrumental tracks, also echoed in the work of certain producers affiliated with the dubstep, grime and other electronic scenes. While far from encompassing everything that happened this year, these two musical ‘tendencies’ have definitely had a big impact on fans, producers and DJs alike."

That is fucking blinding, cheers for pointing it out. Love the Radiohead remix... but then again I'd love to hear a dubstep remix of Kid A!

This is going on my mp3 player

it took having it pounded into my brain 34,000 times from every passing car/12-year-old's cellphone--trip to the bodega but beyoncé's "Single Ladies" is surprisingly wonky. I shit you not.

This is what I was trying to say earlier in this thread. So much of this stuff takes alot of influence from more "commercial" RnB, Hip-Hop and Crunk.

I swear if you were to listen to the instrumentals of some of the recent big hits it would be obvious. But because of the lack of over compressed vocals and autotune, and the fact that it's released on small independents, means this stuff is taken in a completely different context by alot of people. Does the fact that it's less vocal-based mean its not Hip-Hop anymore and has to be catagorised as something else?

I mean I am over-simplifying a bit here, obviously some of this stuff has a different aesthetic at times, but come on....

Since the Neptunes, Timbaland et al have been producing for mainstream artists, some of the beats on your 'commercial' chart toppers have been ridiculous

just spotted somethin funny over at LuckyMe - quote

"The Wonky thing caught on didn't it? Well, you know, whatever. Let em slogan. There's always been more than a name here. We make this music because we never did fit into genres. We'll keep playing with rules and bringing you more dope new music. Bring on Post-Wonky."

by the way you should definitely click the link below if you like this music, a gazillion new mixes, plenty of which i am working my way through. the mary anne hobbs mixes by hudmo, rustie and mike slott are all here too. madness.

Year thats the angle I spose.

Arguments about Genre names are really not worth it, read though the thread and check out some of the artists and call it what you like.

Wonky means Ketamine

Forget 'Wonky' and other imposed genre titles this stuff is Dilla influenced plain and simple!
Check Dilla and Common 'the Movement'

I've been meaning to do this for ages, had an Ableton project I was keeping all my 'wierd r&b & dancehall riddims' in, but HD shat itself & I lost all my project files :|

... did this awhile ago;

Hard Times Bounce

Timbaland tune called 'Bounce'

Wonky has kinda always been there... which is what, from what I've seen, Rustie n them are saying anyway... I still don't like Fly Lo :?
