Who is personally responsible for ruining dubstep?

Post by badga tek » Sun Jan 11, 2009 5:42 pm

Ok, I think absolutely everyone on the forum is agreed that dubstep has been ruined. What we now need to do is work out who's responsible. Justice must be served. Retribution must be swift.

Some people have said it must be Rusko, Caspa or Skream. I'm not so sure. I think the ruination of dubstep has been caused by the more general trend of artists selling out.

Burial on BBC4?
Benga promoting a programme on Princess Diana?

Its absolutely disgusting.

But who's responsible? I believe the first real sell outs were those who allowed their music to be used on the soundtrack of a major Hollywood film - Children of Men. Mala, Kode9 and Pinch - you've ruined dubstep. Justice will be mercilessly meted out. Your fate a grisly end.

Please does anyone else have any more (totally irrational) theories on who can be personally held responsible (scapegoated) for ruining dubstep?

Seriously though, I'd say it was the influx of poofter garage fans making gash tunes full of gay Artful Dodger drums and shit. Ruined the proud, virile, hetrosexual dubstep tradition with their gay feminine ways.

Isn't it only ruined in the eyes of elitists? ;)

It's just progressed, As any music genre does with time, but obviously the way it has progressed doesn't fair up well with some people, and in turn, topics like this are created.

I agree there is some absolute shit being released and created, but there are gems in amongst the shit, you just gotta be prepared to get your hands a bit dirty looking for them ;)

You might be on to something here. Maybe it was nancy garage with its slinky seductive 2-step rhythms which ruined dubstep.

Todd Edwards, Steve Gurley, Groove Chronicles - you're on the list
