How did you get into dubstep?
well I guess it's storytime...
When I heard some 2step by mj cole/wookie around 2000 I found it too light on because I was so used to listening to breaks and drum n bass so when i picked up stanton warriors - stanton sessions vol.1 I was glad to find some fatter garagey/steppy stuff like jammin, mr reds and groove chronicles...then when I found zincs first bingo mix cd followed by zed bias' I fell in love with breakstep and the darker garage stuff...I hunted down anything I could on bingo/hot flush/texture/vehicle etc. and then later on when a mate found hatcha's dubstep allstars mix cd we were blown away by the potential of the minimal sound emerging with low bass, skippy highs and not much mid...so the hunt began for early tempa stuff and one day I found horsepowers - in fine style in a random pile of records in the old central station record store in sydney...walked up the road to the record store hungry for more and asked if they had any dubstep...the response was..."not really, but we just got the new horsepower album - to the rescue" as you can imagine the smile didn't leave my face for days and from then on I have been spending my hard earned on dubstep in all its forms...when I saw skream play for the first time in Sydney 2006 to about 50 people it was the first time I had heard it played in a club and he started his set with dutch flowerz and snes dub... I was once again blown away by the potential of dubstep and all the possible variations...skip forward to 2009 I just saw skream and benga play in sydney a couple of weeks ago to a packed house whilst n-type played void just around the corner which was busy too...times have changed but I still love this music esp. on a nice soundsystem where you can feel the bass rattlin your bones...

Went to go see Calibre but he missed his flight so he would be in town the next day. The promoter gave me the option of $5 for just the Saturday show or $10 for both shows. Most people I went with just opted for the Saturday show but a friend and I opted for both.
Went there the next day and the opener was playing dubstep. It was my first time hearing it and it totally blew me away. Then I asked the dj what it was and that's it about. Thanks Suraj K!

I was and still am a diehard Rephlex head
I still play my copies from time to time.. but not too much because I never want to take em out of the sleeves :p
That turned my head from the fast pace of jungle, IDM, and breakcore to finally get what everyone on the internet was yelling about
As some of you said earlier like spooks, I needed something with a touch of color to it coming from such a fast paced background
however the minimalism is something I completely appreciate so much more now that I have really dug my talons into this sound

Went to a small underground rave somewhere in BC, Canada. There was some psytrance, wich I'm used to. At 6am, when everyone's getting tired, some black guys with long dreads take the stage and play that downtempo, heavy bass music.
Loved it, but didn't know how to call what they played.
Next thing I know, a month later I hear Skream play at Shambhala (huge electronic music festival in Canada). Wasn't a big fan a bass music until that festival. Excision, Skream, Michael Red and Bassnectar completely changed my vision of music during that weekend and for the rest of my life.

long story short i was a lost synth soul / drummer looking for any sort of electronic music. Been producing tunes on audiomulch, and some was quite dubstep like with its kick patterns, but i was really into acid styles and breakcore stuff like NAHC, acrynym, venetian etc.. I was growing tired of AFX and Amon Tobin and the likes of "IDM", kinda just started playing my own styles of beats using just my synth and a guitar loop pedal, i programed drum sounds outta my synth and played them by hand on loops and a lot of it used to really sounds like dubstep in a way, mostly i would lay down hi hats and then add kicks and then snares and the tempo was usually around what dubstep is. then i got an electribe er-1 which SUCKS. but meanwhile while im getting more and more into bass through my own synth playing and the decay and low boost on the kick drum of my Electribe, Brockolio who i had been chattin with for a while through another message board started to turn me onto some mixes, and after a while i realized i should just search for myself so i hit up BAREFILES and ended up with the Darkside of Dubstep mix, which i think is excision! and benga essential mix. by now im already living in NYC for school, so i got a hold of a fake ID (i was almost 21) and hit up LOVE for Trouble and Bass night with BENGA. Lost my fucking marbels and never looked back. Went to Dubwar a few times and some other gigs at LOVE, which is my mecca. now i live in buffalo! my home town. etc etc etc etc etc etc
just basically started downloading mixes and figuring out what i liked all on my own.

I was in to my DnB big time and used to go to Blackmarket about once every 2 months to buy some new tunes and stuff, I allways knew who youngsta was and always used to see him behind the counter but always thought he was a garage dj. I can remember taking the headphones off one day after listening to a selection of DnB, it weren't that busy in the shop and youngsta was having a mix, the system was cranked right up and he was playin some propper bass heavy dubstep! i thought to myself raaaa what is this sound!? so i asked and he said it's dubstep! i never heard of it before that, i bought the hatcha and youngsta tempa all stars before leaving that day and never looked back!

started hearing about this 140bpm music from my mate josh back in 2005. We were making similar style beats on Fruity loops when we started uni in 04 but we were basing it on old garage styles and just using bass presets etc.
Then we went to see zinc at a formation night towards the end of 05 and he played a couple of skream tunes, one of which was request line which was the biggest tune of the night!
Then Felis started handing out mix cds for kontakt which Started around the same time i think and literally the scene in LEicester exploded. Loved being a part of it ever since....
I guess i owe a lot to felis!
