To those experienced in Morroco...

Post by ericssoftbrain » Thu Jan 15, 2009 10:58 am

ive booked flights to Marrakech in about a month. Just looking for general suggestions of things that must be done while there. Also planning on taking a little excursion from Marrakech for a few days. Is tangier worth the annoyingly long train journey, or maybe just a few days in the much nearer Atlas Mountains would be better? Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

i went afew years ago to flew to agadir (spelling) and went along the north coast for surfing, was an amazing place!! if your headed out of a big town make sure you stock up on booze ect as you won't find any ANYWHERE out of town.... if your going with girls (specially blonde ones) take care of them, got offered a camel for my girl at the time... hah its a sick place tho..... oh and in car parks the kids are the security so pay them the equivalent of about 10p and they won't smash the shit out of your rental car..... didn't get to marrakech... and shop around before you buy any hash everyone is selling it and they will try rip you hard straight off the plane... my mate bought a 'finger' for 50 dollars on the first day by the end it was costing closer to 5......

what he said (never been there, but it's supposed to be much nicer than tanger)

if you're going north check out fes - the medina is amazing and a totally medieval maze. a trip to the rif mountains might be interesting too - chefchaouen is the place to go there. very chilled out stoner destination. but you can also go hiking and you even might find someone who takes you on a tour to some of the hash prouction places.

went and loved morroco its sick!!! Essaouira is defo worth going to. Marrakech wise i'd say go to the big square place (forgot the name) and go to one of the little cafe's. Watch out for pickpockets though. My camera was very nearly nicked in that place.
