is it worth the money?
i've recently got some turntables (numark t200's)
and i was wondering if spending £400 on serato is worth it?
being an impoverished student, its quite a bit of money.

i'm definitely getting it once i've sorted myself out with a set of decks. the idea of being able to play all the tunes on my hd is just too good. I have some fucking amazing tunes that i would never be able to get on vinyl. a mate of mine uses it to play out all the time and he hasnt looked back since he got it.

One thing i would say though is get a set of direct drive turntables first of all if the ones you have now arent then wait till youve got a set of dd's before getting serato

yea serato is the future.

Unless you want traktor pro to beeatmatch for you while you fiddle countless knobs (no homo) on over expensive midi mixer add ons a la hawtin, serato is the way to go. The functionability of the software and ease of use is great. You can take it a long way arranging cues and loops and relative mode flashgordon fast changes to your tunes, or just play audio files like they were vinyl. Its nice.
Word of caution- if using control vinyl, look after them well- they are expensive and its depressing finding skips on both sides, warranting the cost of an expensive replacement

YES YES YES YES YES

I have spent the last 5 years buying vinyl and have only just bought Serato, and im totally in love with it. It gives all the subtle handling you get with vinyl but the versatility of digital - in my eyes its the perfect dj tool!

Also it costs £400, but then tune cost £1.50 instead of £6, and you have the option of mixing any genre you please!

Your time and money is better spent collecting vinyl records. If you've spent years collecting and making your own music, maybe then you can buy and use Serato. Untill then I would recommend collecting real music on vinyl. Mp3s are smoke and mirrors and who knows what hard drive they'll be on in 10 years. As a newbie, you will be better off with actual music on vinyl rather than walking in to a club with a fucking lap top.

yes. due to having a second surgery on my shoulder i resorted to getting serato so i wouldnt have to keep carrying a big bag of records about. a) biggest par recording thousands of records b) biggest par trying to plug everything into a rackmounted mixer in a dark room with 4 djs in the booth c) the inputs in my serato box are getting fucked and crackly after hardly using it.

pretty much its good when it works or when a venue facilitates you using it but in my opinion theres still nothing like having a record collection uve scraped ur money together to get.
