anyone else sick of cookie cutter dubstep?

Post by dank » Wed Jan 21, 2009 1:28 am

i'm not trying to reinvent the wheel here, but i'm definitely struggling to find some dubstepz that really hit home, ya know, some shit that really goes there and requires your attention. yeah yeah i know im complainin bring on the flames "why don't you make it yourself" blah blah blah....well i'm trying to and in due time my friends. it just seems like there is this dubstep equation that many people follow and i'm trying to find some soul searching, deep ass bass music that starts somewhere and transports you to this musical, magical place. meh, plus im drunk....what i'm trying to say is, if you know what i'm talking about, point me in the right direction cause i'm becoming petrified over here listening to the same old dubfunction........whomp

I am a little puzzled by the fact SO many people obviously use Massive, do the same LFO sync automation stuff (8th notes... triplets, back to 8ths again etc etc) and don't look a little further.

Still.... they keep coming, I'll keep mastering them :6:

And in fairness there are some people doing some stuff that is way off out there. Great stuff :)

Yeah man - I mean, not everyone is born a radical genius, and as well as n00bs etc there's always people just having fun, not looking to start a movement or whatever. Same in all areas of music really... but still, leaving the lfo sync alone for a bit wouldn't hurt :6:

the use of an LFO is cheating, its all about automation the cutoff filter your self.

and then adding another filter processing more till you have some fuked up mash of sound

exactly, many ways to create a wobble effect, not all about the LFO

again, spot on. there just seems to be an awful ot of people showing a great ammount of desperation to create the exact same generic wobble sound at the moment and give it one up the bum as hard and often as possibe

Quite frankly it is getting like DNB. The reason I left. Everyone is trying to make the same tune.

I don't even mind LFO. I use it in everyone of my tunes. A bit more subtly tho. The thing that gets me is that same distorted wobble that just loops throughout the tune, a little hip hop sample and bob's your uncle.

I am not into the sleepy time musak either. I find about 6 tracks a month that are worth spending my money on. Pretty sad considering the amount of producers out there. Maybe I don't even like dubstep?

You have no room to talk Macc. 808 bass, fast breakbeat, some weird atmospherics, I am on to you
