how can i make this sound more dubsteppy?!

i set out to make a dubstep tune - my first really, but it seems i have missed the mark a little and ended up making 'dubby breaks' - or at least these seems to be the consesus amoung the people i've played it to!

what can i do to make it dubstep? i've been considering resequencing the drums and maybe altering the bass to hit a bit more in the sub but other than that i'm a bit stuck...

I can't listen because it's blocked where I am, but as for worrying about a genre it fits into.. don't!

If it's got it's own sound then let it be, unless you really really want to catagorize everything you do, or whatever.

Nar serious though, the tunes what the tune is, if it isn't dubstep it isn't but doesn't mean it couldn't work in a dubstep environment?

lol - nah i'm all up for letting a tune be what it is, but the reaction i've got from everyone is "this isn't dubstep" so i thought i'd see what people thought was missing...

I could see this tune working with dubstep, the more 2steppy stuff..
Who gives a fuck what genre it is and isn't, dubstep isn't about a certain sound, its about beats bass and energy - if it has that then its 'dubsteppy' in my book... To me dubsteps a vibe not a genre or formula. So do your thang and find someone who'd also like it, bet you'll find someone or a group of people who dig your sound.

hurtdeer - thanks for the tips. i agree with the whole genre thing but it's good to hear it from someone within dubstep. still, i would like to have a crack as some garagey type drums so this might be a good outlet...

yeah its definitely breaks more than dubstep but its a good tune! the biggest reason it sounds like breaks is because its 128 bpm! not that dubstep has to be 140 or anything, but if youre aiming for that sound then you should get it close. the rolling hi hat pattern also gives it that feel. again like everybody else said...dont worry about it just be happy with what it is

unlike most genres, there arent too many defining factors of dubstep, thats whats so great about it, you can really make your own sound
