Post by ericssoftbrain » Tue Jan 27, 2009 10:48 am

Yeah it's not exactly easy to read, the layout is clutterd and trying to read it becomes an effort, try making it a bit cleaner.

As far as for the content, I didnt get far past 3/4 of page 2 cos of the above reasons. Spellcheck ftw.

Nice one for doing it though.

I'd echo what these two have already said. I think there needs to be a bit more empty space to make reading it easier. Content wise, no really my bag but seems to be well written.

Erm, not 100% sure what an anarchist newspaper really is, and I didn't read all of it (again, it is a little bit cluttered etc.) but the bit about ritalin I did read.

Now, Im very much against the idea of prescribing so called "problem kids" with ritalin, in fact im of the opinion that prescribed drugs are used FAR too widely in modern medicine. But seriously, the first half of that article is an absoloute abomination!! You cannot make claims about the efficacy of a prescribed drug, backed up with tabloidesque scaremongering without any form of evidence!!

Like, again, im 100% behind the message of the article, but seriously. That is NOT how you go about critiquing anything in the world of medicine :o

just read that article... and i agree 100% with you Wiggz

i would suggest that "john hoggett" stops writing articles, or anything else, that anyone might accidentally read... it's not a good look!

Did anyone else think this was going to be about the annual "set everyone's tents on fire" riot on the Sunday night of Reading festival?

I'd like to take a look at this as I guess I am an anarchist, well...

Anyway, I am sorry but you really need to learn some basic layout skills, typography and basic design. You want to be taken seriously? Well don't churn out something that looks like you've made it with sticky tape, a photocopier and a stinking hangover. It looks crap to be blunt.

You on libcom or anything?

i agree with the posts its hard to read!! however the more authentic anarchist newspapers or what ever were made using exactly the things you say not to use... and not a computer...

...all though these are punk fanzines i think they are pretty close to the sort of thing i would think a anarchist paper would look like( the idea in its self is very odd!!) .... theirs a little shop at the mile end road end of brick lane that sells so good anarchist literature....

i once made a fanzines about sex-chickens!!!!!

I know what you're saying but that was largely down to ££ and lack of technology. Everyone and their granny has access to a computer now and as such the quality of design and layout of leftist literature is far, far better than it was 15 years ago.

Pamphlets, rags and things that go for the "anarchist" look (whatever that is) do it from a 'cool' point of view rather than anything to do with practicallity or politics. Just because you're anarchist doesn't mean you have to a mongrel on a string called, rizla.

Take a look around the Anarchist Bookfair, Libcom, U75, MATB et al and you'll see that the homemade, punk / crass, image of anarchism has thankfully been put to bed. Some people may start to take it seriously now :D

Not sure about the name, most people are going to associate it with a film...

is regarding the sex-chickens??

and i think Jamie Reid had as much to do with the look of these fanzines as anything else, or at least back in the day....
I like the idea of a modern anarchist publication spread the web but i think the look should be informed by the medium it is using. flash based anarchy would be a good thing to see... like this

http://zoomquilt2.madmindworx.com/zoomquilt2.swf

but with a subversive political message!!
