Been reading about these Fostex drivers. Pretty fucking cool imo. I am building me a pair this spring, my mind is made up. What size are yours anyway? And what kind of amp are you running?

here is my amp. an old Marantz model 1060. Good sound I'd say. I put a thread up a while back about a sound card, and had something else in mind, but got the M-audio fastrack ulrta 8r USB for my soundcard, not a bad setup.

I can't find the specs for the speaker, gonna email my dad about it.

Yeah man old school. I love those big ass knobs. I am getting into the old gear a little bit. picked up a pair of AKG k240 Sextett cans from the 70's or 80's don't know for sure until they get here in the mail.

These look very nice indeed. Some of my workmates are working on making some really tasty mastering hi-fi speakers which have ribbon tweeters and kevlar drivers, their woodwork built from thick-as marine ply which is industrial shipbuidling quality :)

been thinking about building a set of monitors too, something like these could be the ticket!

He is always making new ones too, check this site out, TONS of info to build your own setup....and for almost half the price of a normal monitor of the same quality, probably worth it if you are any good at woodworking.

What I really noticed about the sound from these is I hear EVERYTHING. I put in a reggae CD and you can hear all the shitty production value like clips and pops at the end of samples, obviously being lazy by not bringing it back to 0db at the end of it. I have listened to this CD a hundred times and never heard it before, but with these I heard it, so I guess that says something.

That is what you need out of monitors. I get all that shit you are not supposed to hear with my AKG's. You can hear if the drummer is having stomach problems lol.

Defo going to build me a set of these. My buddy won't let me use plans though. I told him he was going to have to design it for then and I will do the carpentry.

Does your buddy actually know what he's doing? There's a bit more to it than just wrapping bits of plywood around speakers, not much, but a bit lol. I'd rather use a design that's proven to work with the particular driver I'm using along with published response curves and documented builds.

An understanding of Thiele-Small parameters, and copies of winISD and Hornresp would probably be quite useful.

Make sure you post pictures up of the finished speakers when you do them too!

He knows what he is doing yes. Me, not so much. But I do know my wood.
